Brest v St Etienne: Preview

St Etienne manager Christophe Galtier wants to harness the energy that saw his side progress to the final of the Coupe de la Ligue when they travel to Brest tomorrow.

ASSE beat Lille on penalties in the cup semi-final on Tuesday and will face Rennes in the final after they defeated reigning Ligue 1 champions Montpellier.

St Etienne are firmly in the middle of the overall league standings, three places and four points ahead of Brest, who beat Evian in in their last match, and Galtier expects a tough challenge.

``In Brest, it is never simple,'' Galtier told the club's official website.

``We will go with our strengths and qualities, and especially with the desire to continue to play our game.

``Obviously, playing in the semi-final has led to fatigue. Statistics have shown that it was almost a match record in terms of intensity level for races and sprints.

``That said, we have had time to recover. We must turn the page on the Coupe de la Ligue to plunge back into the league. We want to be in the first half of the table.

``I'll make some changes and the team will be competitive.''

Abdou Sissoko, who is on loan at Brest from Serie A side Udinese, returns to Landry Chauvin's side following suspension but the home side will be without several players due to the African Nations Cup.

Defenders Ismael Traore, Ahmed Kantari and Ousmane Coulibaly plus midfielder Kamel Chafni and striker Jonathan Ayite are all competing in the tournament and are unavailable.

St Etienne will be without Faouzi Ghoulam and Max Gradel, who are also on African Nations duty.
