England

  • Joe Cole 49'
  • Joe Cole 55'
  • 90'

FULL-TIME: Not sure what England have learned this evening but the introduction of Cole was clearly a wise move. He is sure to be involved against Croatia but England will have to up their overall game for that one. Big time.

  • 90'

Lescott attacks down the left and gets the ball over towards Joe Cole. He fails to get a clean strike on the ball though and can't quite make it a perfect evening's work for himself. He has won the game though for his country and should figure in the starting line-up in Zagreb on Wednesday night.

  • 88'

John Terry lets Xavi Andorra know he is there as he wins an aerial challenge. Bit late for such informal introductions really.

  • 86'

A rather touching shot there of Wayne Rooney placing a friendly, consoling hand on the shoulder of a distraught looking Andorran player. Ahh, the magnanimity of the victor.

  • 85'

England try to work it through the middle but are foiled by Andorra who then gift them another opportunity as Ashley Cole is brought down for a free-kick. Beckham assumes the responsibilities this time but his cross it too deep.

  • 84'

Pujol does well to get the ball away as Walcott pressured him in his penalty area.

  • 82'

Rooney's looping ball looks like a cross rather than a cheeky lob but it ends as nothing more than a goal-kick as Emile Heskey looks on.

  • 81'

The two Coles combine down the left but Ashley's low ball is easily dealt with by Andorra.

  • 80'

Nice slow motion camera shot of Frank Lampard gobbing on to the floor there from the sub's bench.

  • 79'

Those England fans warmly receive the news that Frank Lampard will be replaced with David Beckham. The cheers for Beckham as he runs on to the pitch suggest perhaps it is the latter's arrival rather than the former's removal they are pleased with.

  • 77'

Capello is remonstrating with his players and urging them forwards. Clearly the England coach thinks not enough room has been placed between that dismal first half performance and the way things stand at the moment. At least the fans seem more content now.

  • 74'

The game has effectively been won in that devastating Joe Cole-inspired period shortly after the break and the England team have stepped down a gear from about twenty minutes ago when they were running Andorra ragged. The Andorrans venture intrepidly over the half-way line but soon lose possession.

  • 72'

Barry's deflected shot wins a corner but Emile Heskey is a little over eager in his desire to win the ball when the corner is taken and gives away a free-kick.

  • 70'

Not much happening at the minute. Then Ashley Cole uses a quick burst of speed to win a free-kick which Lampard sizes up. The cross is good and John Terry has come forward in to the Andorran penalty area but is inches away from making contact.

  • 67'

The corner is not a success, it would be fair to say, but it at least represents some sort of attacking victory for the Andorrans.

  • 66'

Interesting fact: they may well be losing this game but Andorrans can face the world happy in the knowledge that they have the longest life expectancy of any nation. In celebration of this joyous fact, their team have won their first corner of the game.

  • 64'

Small break for the players as Fenando Silva is leisurely replaced by Juan Carlos Toscana.

  • 60'

Wonderful piece of skill from Rooney who controls tha ball well and fires a dangerous shot cum cross across the Andorra six-yard box. Rooney has come alive in the second half as have the rest of his team.

  • 60'

Johnson wins a corner when his cross is headed behind by Lima. Johnson thinks he has scored a goal which his second half performance may well deserve with a low long-range shot but Joe Cole looked to have drifted in to an offside position as the ball travelled in to the back of the net.

  • 56'

Johnson has his shirt tugged by Pujol who then trips him just to ensure he concedes the free-kick. Johnson almost makes him pay the ultimate price - well, not THE ultimate price. He doesn't try to kill him - when his shot finds the target but Alvarez is alert to the threat and makes the save.

  • 55'

GOAL: A second goal from Joe Cole. This time Wayne Rooney provides a marvellous pass which is weighted perfectly in to the path of Cole who places the ball underneath the outstretched arms of Alvarez. What a transformation.

  • 51'

Barry surges in to the attack and feeds Walcott. He wins a throw and England are now playing with much more purpose. John Terry emphasizes this new found urgency with a long range effort which is inches wide. Much better from England and the fans chant their approval.

  • 49'

GOAL: Joe Cole vindicates his manager's decision with his second international goal in two games. Team-mate Frank Lampard's free-kick finds Joleon Lescott who dinks it in to Cole's path. He makes no mistake as he volleys home from close range. A fine substitution Mr Capello.

  • 46'

Barry makes a clumsy challenge in the Andorran half which needlessly gifts the 'home' team a free-kick.

  • 45'

The second half gets going and Joe Cole gets involved quickly with a darting run in from the left wing. He loses the ball but Capello will be looking for more of a threat down that flank in the second half.

  • 45'

England are forty-five minutes away from one of the worst results in their history and have replaced Steward Downing and Jermaine Defoe with Emile Heskey and Joe Cole to try and alter this embarrassing scenario.

  • 45'

HALF-TIME: A shrill blast of the whistle signals the end of the first half and the start of loud jeers from the England fans. Are they singing 'What a load of rubbish' or 'What a waste of money'? Either way - they are not happy. The England team will receive no comforting words from Capello as they trudge inside for the interval.

  • 44'

Rooney finds Downing with a long pass and he gets it over to Lampard who chests it down before going to ground as he is challenged in the penalty area. There are no appeals for a penalty but it was perhaps worth a shout.

  • 40'

Rooney delivers a great ball in towards Defoe but it flashes just past the Pompey man.

  • 39'

Walcott makes a reappearance in the game joining up for an England attack but the end product - a high, long range cross by Downing towards Defoe - is not what is required with such a small striker up front.

  • 37'

Late tackle on Johnson from Pujol goes unpunished by the referee and the Andorrans are certainly living up to their 'tough' reputation.

  • 36'

Lescott appears to have a cut on his forehead which looks like it may need stitching at the interval. Some strong words from his manager are likely also as the England fans once more voice their increasing frustration.

  • 33'

Corner for England. Lampard's cross finds Lescott's head but Andorra get it behind for another. Lampard, again, with a deeper one and once more Lescott meets it. He heads it back towards Gareth Barry but he can't trouble the Andorran goal. Lescott is now receiving treatment for a head wound.

  • 32'

England regain possession and Lampard's long range pass puts the Andorrans under pressure once more. The move breaks down though and more faint boos are audible...

  • 30'

Lescott has conceded a free-kick about forty-five yards from goal and one swift punt will see this ball planted in the England penalty area. This is acheived comfortably but Glen Johnson is back to head the ball out for another throw.

  • 28'

Downing's cross should have been dealt with but it makes it's way to Jermaine Defoe lurking just inside the penalty area. He chooses to hit it first time and he will agree, in hindsight, that this was a mistake.

  • 27'

Oh dear. Are those boos I can hear? Surely it's a bit early for that..

  • 25'

The ball almost breaks for Defoe as he tries to battle though the centre of the Andorran defence but they manage to scramble it away. David Rodrigo's men will be reasonably pleased with how things are going so far.

  • 24'

A high foot from Marcio Vieria sees a free-kick awarded to England.

  • 23'

Rooney makes a hash of controlling a simple ball and the United man is not firing on all cylinders so far this evening.

  • 22'

Scottish sporting fans may be able to console themselves with news that Andy Murray is two sets up to Nadal. As for this game - shouldn't England have scored by now?

  • 21'

Lampard fizzes a shot inches wide with a trademark low effort. Perhaps the closest England have come so far.

  • 19'

Andorra get within forty yards of the England goal and win themselves a throw-in. The party is soon over though and normal service is resumed as Walcott scampers away from his markers.

  • 17'

Downing does well to keep in Frank Lampard's pass on the left touchline but can't keep the ball from going behind for a goal-kick.

  • 15'

Walcott tees up Rooney with a lovely linking pass but Rooney's aim is way off and he hits his shot high over the bar.

  • 14'

England have a corner but Alvarez gets a good double fist to it as John Terry looked for the header.

  • 13'

Frank Lampard indicates he has won the ball as the ref blows for an Andorran free-kick. The camera has just lingered on the face of ex-captain David Beckham. Glum would be the best description of his expression.

  • 12'

The England fans applaud their own version of 'God Save The Queen'. Jolly good lads. Around 7,000 have made the trip to Barcelona this evening.

  • 11'

For the third time Walcott threatens down the right and Andorra struggle to get his cross away. They are stuggling with his pace already.

  • 9'

John Terry earlier spoke of a lack of confidence affecting the England team over the past couple of years. A sound thrashing of Andorra in this opening Wolrd Cup qualifier would go some way to rebuilding that.

  • 7'

Joleon Lescott makes his first contribution of the evening, coming ahead of his man to win the ball and a free-kick in the process as he is tripped.

  • 6'

Poor corner from Stewart Downing and Andorra have a goal-kick.

  • 5'

Andorra are, as expected, packing their half with blue shirts and will be happy to do so for most of this evening. Cole this time escapes down the left and his ball eventually breaks to Glen Johnson. He has a go from about twenty yards and wins a corner.

  • 3'

Ashley Cole and Jermaine Defoe simultaneously tumble to the floor in the Andorran penalty area but the ref is interested in neither fall.

  • 2'

Walcott, again, shows his pace to get on the end of a Wayne Rooney pass but lifts his shot over the crossbar. A fine start though from the Arsenal youngster.

  •

Theo Walcott zooms down the right and gets a decent cross in which Jermaine Defoe has every right to go for. The Andorran keeper complains about the Portsmouth striker's challenge as he smothered the ball and his team-mates are not slow to complain to the ref.

  •

David James performs a little shadow box in the goal perhaps anticipating some Andorran rough house tactics but he is unlikely to be troubled greatly this evening. And England get us under way..

  •

The national anthems and handshakes are quickly dispensed with. England's experimental line-up will be hoping to put this game out of Andorra's reach with similar speed.

  •

The teams emerge to a sparsely populated Olympic Stadium with the majority of filled seats containing English fans. England are in their changed shirts of red.

  •

The more carefree, foolhardy, or drunk among you can get odds of 150-1 on Andorra doubling their international victory tally this evening. Scotland fans will be pleased to know that the principality's solitary win to date came against their conquerors today - Macedonia.

  •

Join us in around half an hour. It's gonna be as interesting as the England team selection...

  •

Some early team news - England are going to line up with Glen Johnson and Joleon Lescott pairing up with John Terry and Ashley Cole at the back. Theo Walcott wins his first England start and Stewart Downing also comes in to the side.

  •

Nothing less than a comfortable win over Andorra's minnows will satisfy the expectant travelling support in Barcelona's Olympic Stadium as the Capello England era begins in earnest. His players will be hoping for a warmer reception from those England fans than that accorded them when these teams last met in Barcelona.

  •

'Don' Fabio Capello's demand for respect, one of the vague footballing buzzwords currently doing the rounds, contrasts with the more clearly defined needs of England's fans this evening.

  •

Join us at 1900 BST to see if England can do better than the last time they played Andorra.
