  • Andrey Arshavin 39'
  • Samir Nasri 45'
  • Marouane Chamakh 56'
  • Jack Wilshere 90' +3'
  • 94'

FULL TIME Arsenal deservedly win and they go top of the table, for a few hours at least. They always looked menacing, while Villa paid for a miserable first half display. Four good goals and three good points.

  • 94'

Rosicky goes off and Djourou is on.

  • 93'

GOAL It was always likely and Wilshere has potted his first Premier League goal for Arsenal. Denilson's shot fell to Chamakh, who lobbed the ball over Friedel for Wilshere to nod home. Game over.

  • 92'

Villa going long and Squillaci and Koscielny getting up to try and compete with Dunne.

  • 91'

Great tackle from Koscielny as Dunne looked to strike on goal from his own knock down. Dunne playing up front now.

  • 90'

    Four added minutes...

  • 89'

Arsenal just trying to see the game off now before Chamakh forces Warnock into a hurried clearance.

  • 88'

Villa win a free kick as the corner comes in. Some shoving in the box.

  • 87'

Gibbs wastes a little time in the corner flag before winning a corner.

  • 86'

Gibbs tries to latch on to a ball to the back post but catches Friedel on the head as he hurdles him.

  • 85'

Nasri goes off and Kieran Gibbs comes on. Then Arshavin makes way for Denilson. Villa make a change too as Chris Herd replaces Bannan.

  • 84'

Arshavin does well to win the ball and get to the byline but his pull back for Wilshere is heavy and the youngster blasts over.

  • 84'

Dunne rises high again but once more his header is right at Fabianski. Three Villa players were close but couldn't get a touch.

  • 83'

Great ball into the box from Downing and Squillaci's flick hands Villa a corner.

  • 80'

Arsenal sitting deeper and deeper and playing on the counter.

  • 79'

A high boot from Clark flicks Koscielny's head. Arsenal free kick.

  • 78'

Now Downing charges down the left and wins a throw.

  • 77'

Chamakh nearly got in on goal there but for a swift Friedel intervention.

  • 76'

Warnock's free kick is met by Dunne but it loops into Fabianski's hands.

  • 76'

Chamakh gets a card for a late tackle.

  • 74'

Great work from Nasri, who beats Dunne to a ball down the right. His cross is too strong but right across the face of goal. Chamakh should have gambled.

  • 73'

Another mazy run from Arshavin but his eventual shot is well wide. He's been in decent nick today.

  • 72'

That has brought the crowd back to life. Villa going hell for leather now. Expect more goals.

  • 71'

GOAL Clark does get his second! Dunne nods the corner goalwards and Clark's flick takes it in off the bar. Hope again for Villa!

  • 70'

Good cross from Ireland and Koscielny nods behind for a corner.

  • 69'

Clark has missed a great opening for his second. A cross is cleared right to Clark who fires wide from ten yards from a tightish angle.

  • 68'

Space down the left for Downing who flashes a cross past Fabianski.

  • 67'

Space for Young, who is running at Arsenal's defence but his simple pass wide to Warnock was dreadful and the crowd groan as one.

  • 67'

Stephen Ireland comes on for the ineffectual Carew.

  • 65'

A decent run from Delfouneso comes to an end after Koscielny's tackle.

  • 64'

Now the travelling fans break out the 'ole's' as Arsenal play keep ball.

  • 63'

Arsenal have reverted back to their quest to fashion the perfect goal with intricate little passes in and around the penalty area.

  • 61'

A silky run from Arshavin is ended by a fierce Warnock tackle.

  • 60'

Space for Nasri again and his cross is hammered over the bar by Arshavin. Difficult chance.

  • 59'

Another opening as Wilshere gets down the left channel but his cross is cut out by Friedel with Chamakh circling.

  • 58'

Nasri very nearly offers Jack Wilshere a sight of goal but Dunne intervenes.

  • 56'

That could well knock the stuffing out of Villa. They had battled back, gave themselves hope only to be torn apart by a simple through ball.

  • 55'

GOAL Villa might be better but they are two goals behind again after Rosicky feeds Chamakh and he pokes the ball under Friedel.

  • 54'

Another dangerous looking cross from Young as Villa continue to improve.

  • 53'

That will giver Villa hope, and they have been much better in this second half. It all begs the question, why were they so bad in the first?

  • 52'

A few things to note about that, firstly, Clichy just dropped off as soon as Clark chested the ball down. Then, a still dazed Carew was standing right in front of Fabianski, who had to crane his neck to see the shot.

  • 51'

GOAL A beauty from Clark! He chests down and hammers a volley into the top corner. A peach.

  • 50'

A few half chances around the edge of the box for Villa before Arsenal break away. Its quite an open game now.

  • 49'

Comment from Kevin Palmer at Villa Park: It is a little alarming to see how far Villa have fallen since the departure of Martin O'Neill. I know they have injury worries just now, but this has been a damage limitation effort from the first whistle, which is not good for a team playing at home. Delfouneso is on now, so at least they are showing a little more attacking intent.

  • 48'

That's better from Villa as Young swirls in a deep cross that Sagna has to flick to safety.

  • 47'

Carew is looking very loose up top. Nothing is sticking to him.

  • 47'

Villa will still have Houllier's harsh words ringing in their ears and they certainly look a little more positive with two up front now.

  • 46'

    We begin again...

  • 45'

A change for Villa, Pires off, Delfouneso on.

  • 45'

Arshavin and Wilshere celebrate Arsenal's opener.

  • 45'

HALF TIME Arsenal's dominance is rewarded by two goals late on in the first half, but don't forget they were 2-0 up last week at the break against Spurs. Villa have been rotten, and are booed off.

  • 45'

GOAL But Villa's reprieve is only temporary as Nasri's volley from the corner is deflected into the net.

  • 43'

What a save! Incredible point blank stop from Friedel as Chamakh meets Sagna's cross from six yards but is denied by a superb reflex save.

  • 42'

Houllier needs to do something at half time because this could turn into a rout if Villa continue to be so submissive.

  • 41'

Villa are all over the place at the back. Dunne and Collins showed Arshavin inside and allowed him to get a shot off for the goal, then Warnock gambled on an offside call and allowed Nasri in.

  • 40'

Oh dear it should be two! Arsenal get hold of the ball, Nasri springs the offside trap and rounds Friedel but off balance, hits his shot into the side netting, That should have been game over!

  • 39'

GOAL Finally, a decent shot on goal brings Arsenal a goal. Arshavin cuts in from the right and beats Friedel with a low shot.

  • 38'

Bannan robs Song after a slip and tries to find Carew but the pass was too near Squillaci.

  • 37'

Now a stray arm from Wilshere blocks Bannan's cross and that could easily have been a pen.

  • 36'

Decent move from Villa as Bannan slides in Warnock but his cross is cleared by Koscielny.

  • 35'

Arshavin skips past Pires and Chamakh lays his cross off to Nasri but his shot hits his own team-mate.

  • 34'

A lovely turn of pace from Pires. Yes, you read that right. He skips past two and launches a counter but Young's eventual cross is cleared.

  • 33'

Nearly another Richard Dunne own goal as Nasri hammers a ball across the face. Dunne's shank goes over the bar and behind for a corner.

  • 32'

Eight Arsenal shots on goal to one from Villa.

  • 31'

Comment from Kevin Palmer at Villa Park: Typical Arsenal here. Pretty passing, lots of chances, no goals. Then the opposition come closest to scoring.

  • 30'

Now Wilshere gets in the area and pulls the ball back but no-one is there to profit.

  • 29'

A poor pass from Clark sets Arsenal off again but after more pretty passing they end up with another throw.

  • 28'

Friedel punches Arshavin's inswinger away at the near post.

  • 27'

One Arsenal corner on the right leads to another Arsenal corner on the left.

  • 26'

More lovely stuff from Arsenal but no cutting edge as Arshavin and Chamakh look to combine.

  • 25'

Finally a chance for Villa as Downing crosses and Young knocks it over the bar at the far post. Difficult opening but he should have done better.

  • 23'

Arsenal need to score in this patch because Villa surely can't get any worse?

  • 22'

A pathetic dive from Arshavin as Bannan nudged him. Get up.

  • 21'

Another silky move ends with an Arsenal corner.

  • 20'

A lovely spell of passing from Arsenal breaks down when Sagna's lay off is miscontrolled by Rosicky.

  • 18'

A Villa corner is wasted as the home side give the ball away.

  • 17'

The corner is cleared to Rosicky, who feeds Nasri but his effort from outside the box is poor and well wide.

  • 16'

Now Arshavin's shot is blocked inside the area. Its a matter of time this.

  • 16'

Now Arshavin gets into the box and squares it for Chamakh but he can't collect it.

  • 15'

Decent defending from Clark as Nasri tried to skip to the byline.

  • 14'

Chamakh wins a flick and Rosicky is round the back but his effort from the edge of the box is weak and easily claimed by Friedel.

  • 13'

Koscielny is back on with a plain shirt now, as a Villa attack is interrupted for an offside decision.

  • 12'

    Another misplaced pass from Bannan.

  • 11'

It was an arm I think but no malice involved.

  • 10'

Koscielny has some blood round his mouth after an aerial challenge with Carew.

  • 9'

A rare spell of possession for Villa ends with an overhit Banna pass.

  • 8'

Song is hoovering up the scraps whenever a long ball up to Carew falls loose. Villa's gameplan all wrong at the minute.

  • 7'

A rare break downfield ends with Warnock sliding in on Squillaci and squealing in pain. He looks ok to carry on though.

  • 6'

Another wave of Arsenal possession ends with a scuffed shot wide from Chamakh.

  • 5'

Sagna's cross from the right is met by Chamakh but the ball then flicks off Luke Young and Arsenal have a throw on the left.

  • 4'

Carew looks very isolated up front on his own so far. Villa can't get hold of the ball.

  • 3'

Now Rosicky goes close with an angled drive after Wilshere's lay off. Its all Arsenal.

  • 2'

Now Nasri gets in down the right side and Warnock redeems himself with a good block on the attempted cross.

  • 1'

Chamakh nearly scores inside 15 seconds! Warnock gives the ball away, Arshavin turns it into the box and Friedel comes out to save from the striker.

  • 1'

    We're off..

Pires goes down the line of Arsenal players in the tunnel and shakes everybody's hand. A few kisses too, as is the Gallic way.

Arsenal have Jack Wilshere and Thomas Rosicky in midfield, with Arshavin and Nasri in attack with Chamakh.

John Carew is fit to play up front and will hope to have similar success to his time at Valencia.

The big team news is, of course, that Robert Pires starts against his old club. 37 years old now!

Pires will hope to upset his former boss.

Join us at 1245 GMT to see if Robert Pires can upset his old side as Villa take on Arsenal.
