Sidney Sam's Frankfurt move off after failed medical

Sidney Sam's proposed move from Schalke to Eintracht Frankfurt is off after the player failed a medical, according to his club.

Sam, 27, was seeking a way out of Gelsenkirchen after earning a club suspension for ill-discipline at the end of last season, but now faces an uncertain future after a medical with Eintracht revealed a kidney problem.

A Schalke statement said: "In the past few days, FC Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt have been in discussion over the transfer of Sidney Sam.

"However, the proposed move has fallen through after the winger failed to pass a medical at the Frankfurt club.

"Test results showed that 27-year-old has a kidney issue as well as traces of blood in his urine, which caused Eintracht Frankfurt to pull out of any possible deal.

"Schalke will now conduct further medical tests on the winger in order to determine the reason for such irregularities."

Sam, capped five times by Germany, was suspended alongside Kevin-Prince Boateng at the end of the season, and the club's director of sport Horst Heldt indicated their Schalke careers were over.

Speaking in May, he said: "We are sticking with what we have decided, that we do not want to work with either of them next season."
