Luis Suarez hopes Mohamed Salah is fit for Uruguay vs. Egypt at World Cup

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has said he hopes Egypt's Mohamed Salah will have recovered from a shoulder injury by the time the countries face each other in the World Cup next month.

Liverpool forward Salah sprained ligaments in his shoulder during Saturday's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Speaking after the game, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp described it as a "really serious injury," but the Egyptian Football Federation said it is optimistic that he will be ready for the Uruguay match on June 15 and Barcelona's Suarez said he was also hopeful that he will be back in action.

"No one is happy when a colleague suffers an injury, especially when it happens in a match as it did, just before a World Cup," he told a news conference.

"Salah is in a difficult situation, but I've consistently said I always want to play against the best to demonstrate that Uruguay are better."

Suarez returned from an injury problem earlier than expected to play in the 2014 World Cup, scoring twice as Uruguay beat England and reached the round-of-16.

"I would love Salah to have a good recovery and enjoy the World Cup," he added. "He is in the same situation as I was in four years ago, and I don't wish that on anyone."

Salah will travel to Spain on Wednesday to undergo treatment, the Egyptian federation said, amid an ongoing debate around the circumstances of the injury.

An online petition urging UEFA and FIFA to punish Madrid's Sergio Ramos, whose challenge injured Salah, has reached 400,000 signatures.

A tweet from the European Judo Union, saying Ramos' challenge would be illegal in judo, has gone viral.

"Forbidden arm lock technique in judo," the tweet said, "but in football good enough to win the Champions League."
