Negredo keen to end goal drought

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says his side need no extra motivation ahead of Sunday's Capital One Cup final with Manchester City at Wembley.

Alvaro Negredo insists he is not worried by his goal drought and is confident he will return to the scoresheet soon.

• Mooney: The price of success

The Spain international striker, who has not scored in his last five appearances, will be on the longest barren run of his Manchester City career if he does not find the net in Sunday’s Capital One Cup final against Sunderland.

But Negredo, whose last goal came in the semifinal second leg against West Ham, revealed an injury affected him when he returned at the start of February after missing two games.

He said: "For the first few games I was struggling with my shoulder. I think it was an influence for a couple of weeks after it happened but I'm perfectly fine now. As strikers, we go through cycles when sometimes the goals stop coming but I am not worried. They will come back. It's been a few weeks now so I hope so."

Negredo has been at his most prolific this season alongside Sergio Aguero and the Argentine, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury, is available to return at Wembley.

The Spaniard added: “We've done well together earlier in the season, we got a lot of goals so maybe that can continue.”

Negredo revealed this will be his first ever trip to Wembley, saying: “It's a massive day. I've never played there before - I've never even been to Wembley so I'm looking forward to it.”
