Dutch Eredivisie games postponed amid threat of police strike action

Two of the opening games in the Dutch Eredivisie season have been postponed because of planned strike action by police -- and more could follow.

Heerenveen said on Tuesday that their game against promoted De Graafschap Doetinchem, due to be played on Friday night, had been called off on the order of the town's mayor, Tjeerd van der Zwan.

Saturday evening's game between Zwolle and Cambuuris has also been postponed, while Den Haag against PSV Eindhoven and Willem II against Vitesse Arnhem will also be off if the strike goes ahead.

The proposed police action is the latest stage in an ongoing campaign for better working conditions.
