Aron Johannsson nets winner for AZ

American international Aron Johannsson scored on a half volley and AZ Alkmaar handed Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven their first defeat of the season, 2-1 on Saturday night.

AZ took the lead on twenty minutes when Nick Viergever headed a corner into the net.

PSV equalised in the 36th minute, with Memphis Depay scoring a free kick from just outside the box.

Johannsson provided the winner just before the hour mark. He controlled a bouncing loose ball with his chest and then looped it over substitute goalkeeper Tyton for his fifth league goal of the season and eighth in all competitions.

He also scored twice in a Dutch Cup match on Wednesday.

Johannsson was born in Mobile, Ala., but moved to his parents' native Iceland when he was 3 years old. FIFA approved his request to switch national teams in August, and he appeared briefly in the U.S.'s World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica earlier this month.
