Jon Dahl Tomasson appointed as Denmark assistant coach

Former Denmark striker Jon Dahl Tomasson has been appointed as assistant coach of the national team, the Danish Football Association has announced.

Tomasson, currently assistant at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem, will work with Denmark coach Age Hareide from June 1.

The 39-year-old scored 52 goals in 112 matches for Denmark, equalling Poul Nielsen's record as the country's all-time top scorer. He retired as a player in 2011.

Tomasson was described by Hareide as a leader "who will bring an offensive view of football and an indomitable winning mentality."

Hareide replaced Morten Olsen as head coach after Denmark failed to qualify for the summer's European Championships in France.
