Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew calls Tim Krul speculation 'unwelcome'

Alan Pardew has rubbished reports Crystal Palace will swoop for Newcastle's Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, branding speculation as "unwelcome."

Palace boss Pardew ruled out signing a goalkeeper at all this summer, putting his full faith in Julian Speroni and Wayne Hennessey.

Former Newcastle boss Pardew said he had made no contact with Krul or the St James' Park club, and backed the 27-year-old to remain on Tyneside this summer.

"Well I'm surprised at that because there's been no contact between me and Newcastle, and certainly there's been no contact between me and the player or the agents who represent him," said Pardew. "I don't knw where that's come from, and quite frankly it's unwelcome really.

"I have a great situation with my goalies here. Tim Krul is a great goalie but he's a Newcastle goalie and I'm pretty confident that's where he'll stay.

"So I don't understand that, but as far as we're concerned we're looking at a number of players for next year, but at the moment not the goalkeeping position."

Argentine stopper Speroni has been at Palace since 2004, but at 35 remains in prime form and is not expected to be leaving the club any time soon.

Speroni is gearing up for his testimonial match against former club Dundee, at Selhurst Park on May 26, and Eagles boss Pardew hailed his impact at the south London club.

"He's not just been a great servant as a player and a technician for the football club, but he's one of the true gents of the game," said Pardew. "Being an old Corinthian myself, he definitely takes that spirit into the way he plays.

"If he knocks someone over he'll be the first there to pick them up and offer them some sympathy. He's been a fantastic player, he's loved at this football club, and we love him."
