Crystal Palace failed to find a great moment, Alan Pardew says

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew said his side lacked killer instinct in falling to their first defeat in his tenure, 1-0 at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

Palace had won four straight since Pardew took over earlier this month, beating with Premier League wins against Tottenham and Burnley bookended by FA Cup victories over Dover and Southampton.

But Everton proved too difficult to break down after Romelu Lukaku scored the game's only goal in the second minute.

"We never really produced a classical moment, or a great moment today," said Pardew.

"That was a shame, we had a lot of good play but that final pass, that final idea, let us down today."

Pardew conceded Palace missed Marouane Chamakh after the striker suffered a broken nose.

"The loss of Cham was crucial today, his guile and experience around the box would have been important," said Pardew. "He's got a broken nose we fear, so fingers crossed he doesn't get my cold.

"He wasn't concussed, but it was a heavy blow to the nose. But I think he'll be OK for Leicester."

Pardew also lamented Phil Jagielka clearing Dwight Gayle's shot off the line.

"I thought Gayle's shot was in, and the players' reaction looked like it was in," he said. "So whoever invented that goal line technology wanted kicking up the bum today!

"To be fair the linesman said 'It's not on the watch', so I knew straight away really."
