Vanderlei Luxemburgo sacked by Cruzeiro after three months in charge

Former Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo has been sacked for the second time this season after Cruzeiro confirmed his dismissal on Monday afternoon.

The record five-time Brazilian champion was let-go a day after the Belo Horizonte club's disappointing 1-0 home loss to Santos, which dropped the two-time defending champs to 16th in the league table, one spot away from a relegation place.

Champions in 2013 and 2014, Cruzeiro, who revamped their roster after the sale of stars Everton Ribeiro and Ricardo Goulart during the winter window, dismissed long-time coach Marcelo Oliveira in June after a poor start to the league campaign.

Luxemburgo, who had been fired just days before following an equally-frustrating start at Flamengo, was immediately hired.

It was Luxemburgo's second stint in charge of the club at which he'd previously won Minas Gerais state championship, Brazilian Cup and a Brazilian league title between 2002 and 2004.

Over his 19-game spell this season with Raposa, however, Luxemburgo managed just six wins, three draws and 10 losses and finished his brief tenure on a six-game winless run.
