Crotone promoted to Serie A for first time in their history

Crotone were promoted to Serie A for the first time in their history following a 1-1 draw at Modena on Friday night.

The visitors picked up the point they needed to guarantee a maiden season in the top flight of Italian football thanks to Raffaele Palladino's 44th-minute penalty, which cancelled out Davide Luppi's opener after 17 minutes.

The draw left the Calabrians 13 points clear of third-placed Trapani, who have four games left to play.

Around 1,200 fans had travelled to Modena, while thousands of people are celebrating in the streets of Crotone, where there were two giant screens set up for fans to watch the match.

Crotone are five points clear of second-placed Cagliari at the top of the table as they chase the title, but the Sardinians have a game in hand.

The Stadio Ezio Scida, where Crotone play their home matches, holds fewer than 10,000 people.
