Bottom La Liga club Cordoba sack manager Miroslav Djukic

Miroslav Djukic was sacked on Monday after less than five months in charge of Cordoba.

Struggling Spanish club Cordoba  sacked manager Miroslav Djukic after losing their eighth consecutive game.

Cordoba lost 2-0 away to regional rivals Malaga on Sunday, keeping them bottom of the La Liga table with 18 points, four below 19th-placed Granada and eight points from safety.

Cordoba appointed Djukic on Oct. 20 after previous coach Albert Ferrer had failed to win a single match since the club's return to the top tier this season.

Former Barcelona, Chelsea and Spain defender Ferrer had coached Cordoba to promotion to the top flight for the first time in 42 years.

The Andalucian club have won just three league matches and said on Monday they appointed B-team coach Jose Romero as caretaker manager.

"Cordoba CF thanks Miroslav Djukic for the work, effort and dedication he has put into the development of his duties during his time at the [club] while it wishes him luck in his future career," a club statement said.

Former Deportivo La Coruna defender and Serbia national coach Djukic had a spell managing Valencia before taking over at Cordoba.

Following Sunday's defeat, Djukic had appeared in defiant mode, telling a press conference: "The team has given everything and has lost to a great team. The group has fought, and had their chances, but we have not taken advantage.

"We are in a difficult situation, but we will fight and fight until the end."
