Javier Hernandez congratulates Chivas on Copa MX trophy

Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio discusses the 2026 World Cup, his goals for the Confederations Cup and facing the U.S. on June 11th.

Thousands of kilometres from Mexico, Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez let his allegiance slip via social media as the Bayer Leverkusen star congratulated Chivas Guadalajara on their Copa MX win.

Chivas won the Copa MX 3-1 on penalties. Guadalajara dominated, but couldn't create enough to get past a sturdy Morelia defense. After a goalless 90 minutes, Chivas keeper Miguel Jimenez conjured up three saves to win the resulting penalty shootout.

Hernandez wrote: "One more for the trophy case with an all-Mexico...

Chivas landed the Copa MX with a 3-1 victory on penalties over Morelia on Wednesday night.

It was difficult to take his words at face value then and it's even tougher to do so after the fact.

Chivas had dominated the match in front of 42,329 fans in Estadio Chivas, with Morelia showing very little in the final third.

Carlos Fierro came close with two shots in the first half and provided a perfect cross for Alan Pulido in the 49th minute, but Morelia keeper Sosa saved from close range.

Chivas can create history with Copa MX win on home soil against Morelia

Alan Pulido and Chivas have a chance to give an expectant home crowd something to cheer about in the Copa MX final.

GUADALAJARA - Estadio Chivas is one of Mexico's best sporting venues and home to arguably the country's most popular soccer team. But filling the 45,000-capacity stadium and generating a real buzz around Guadalajara has proven difficult since its inauguration against Manchester United back in 2010.

Admittedly, the stadium's facilities, a better product on the field, the transport options available and the way fans have become more accustomed to traveling to an almost U.S.-style venue outside the...

The numbers behind Wednesday's Chivas vs. Morelia Copa MX final

Max Bretos and Herculez Gomez recap the best of this weekend's MLS action. Plus, the guys share their thoughts on Jurgen Damm's goal celebration for Tigres.

The Copa MX has often been regarded as a second-tier tournament by many, with almost every club fielding reserve squads to test out formations and give young players experience. After all, the Liga MX title is the prize all teams seek.

Chivas are no exception, but the fact that Mexico's most popular team reaches its fourth Copa MX final in the past five seasons gives the tournament added flavor. Last season, Chivas met scrappy Queretaro in the final and lost. On Wednesday, they face relegation-threatened...
