Lionel Messi to be available for Argentina at Copa America - Martino

Lionel Messi will have "no problem" being available for Argentina at this summer's Copa America despite his impending tax fraud trial, coach Gerardo Martino has said.

There have been suggestions Messi could miss the first week of Copa America Centenario play after the date of his trial was moved from May 31 to June 7 at the request of the lawyers.

Argentina open their tournament, which is being hosted in the U.S., in Group D on June 6 when they take on Chile, before facing Panama on June 10 and then Bolivia on June 14.

"These are issues that perhaps may have some impact on football," Martino told Continental Radio.

He added: "I think we should have no problem with his presence at the Copa America Centenario.

"If he suspected that there might be a problem, we would have said."

Messi and his father, Jorge Messi, have been charged with three counts of tax fraud in Spain and could be sentenced to nearly two years in prison if found guilty.

They are accused of defrauding Spain's tax office of €4.1 million ($4.4m) in unpaid taxes from 2007-09.

In February, Martino said Messi will play in the Copa America this summer but skip football tournament at the Olympics Games in Rio de Janeiro, which run from Aug. 3-20.
