PSG's Marquinhos wants to play for Brazil at Rio Olympic Games

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos wants to help Brazil finally win a gold medal at the Olympic football tournament later this year.

The Olympic competition is the only major trophy Brazil have yet to win, but they hope to rectify that on home soil at this year's event in Rio de Janeiro in August.

And Barcelona star Neymar, who was on the Brazil team that lost the 2012 Olympic final against Mexico, has indicated that he would also like to take part again this year.

Brazil coach Dunga said last month that he would ask Barcelona to release Neymar as one of three permitted overage players for the Olympics, despite the fact that the 24-year-old will also be expected to play a key role at this summer's Copa America.

Marquinhos, 21, could also bolster the Selecao's ranks for the Olympics, which is open to players under the age of 23.

"Marquinhos wants to take part in the Olympic Games," the player's agent Giuliano Bertolucci told Le Parisien. "To win the gold medal at home in Brazil is a unique objective."

Marquinhos has started only 13 games for PSG in Ligue 1 this season as fellow Brazilians Thiago Silva and David Luiz have formed the Champions' first-choice centre-back pairing.

The former Roma defender said earlier this month that he will consider his future at the club in the summer amid rumours that Barcelona and Real Madrid are monitoring his development closely. And in January Bertolucci claimed Manchester United were also interested in his client, whose contract with PSG runs until 2019.

But Bertolucci told Le Parisien this week that the ex-Corinthians player is not letting transfer talk distract him ahead of PSG's Champions League quarterfinal tie with Manchester City.

"For the moment, Marquinhos is concentrating on the end of the season," Bertolucci said.
