Dani Alves replaces injured Danilo on Brazil's Copa America squad

SAO PAULO -- Brazil have added Barcelona right-back Dani Alves to their Copa America squad.

Coach Dunga summoned Alves to replace defender Danilo, who won't be able to recover from a right ankle injury sustained in Brazil's warm-up against Mexico on Sunday.

The Brazilian football confederation said on Thursday that Danilo had to be dropped from the squad because of the injury. He had already missed Wednesday's friendly against Honduras.

Brazil will be travelling to the tournament in Chile without several players because of injuries, including playmaker Oscar, left-back Marcelo and defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo.

Alves has been a regular for Brazil since 2007. He was in the team that won the Copa America that year, when Dunga was also the coach.

Alongside Brazil teammate Neymar, Alves just completed his club season last Saturday, helping Barcelona win the UEFA Champions Leaue title.

Brazil open this year's tournament against Peru on Sunday.
