RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Liga de Quito won the Ecuadorean championship for the seventh time at the weekend, clinching the title with a 2-1 win over local rivals El Nacional.

Venezuela was hit by a rare bout of soccer violence when Deportivo Tachira blew their chances of winning the first stage of the championship and Deportivo Cali and Tolima both rode their luck to reach the final in Colombia.
