Boca Juniors cruise, Rosario Central oust Gremio in Copa Libertadores

Boca Juniors thumped Paraguay's Cerro Porteno 3-1 in their Copa Libertadores round of 16 second leg to advance 5-2 on aggregate on Thursday.

The six-time South American champions rode goals from Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Pavon and Pablo Pérez in a raucous Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires.

Rodrigo Rojas' 12th-minute striker was all the visitors could muster before bowing out in the opening knockout round.

Earlier in the day, fellow Argentine side Rosario Central sent Gremio crashing out with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of the Brazilians in their second-leg last-16 match.

A brace from Marco Rubén and a goal from defender Alejandro Donatti helped power the Rosario club to a 4-0 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 1-0 in Porto Alegre.

Rosario will next play Atletico Nacional of Colombia, while Boca will face Nacional of Uruguay, who ousted current Brazilian champions Corinthians on Wednesday.

Joining them in the final eight are Independiente del Valle of Ecuador, Pumas of Mexico, and Brazilian clubs Sao Paulo and Atletico Mineiro.
