Congo ease past Burkina Faso to reach CHAN quarters

Carof Bakoua and Kader Bidimbou helped Congo-Brazzaville to a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in African Nations Championship action on Saturday to send the Red Devils through to the quarter finals.

Congo's victory takes them up to six points following their opening triumph over Cameroon on Tuesday, and they'll win the group with a draw against Angola in their final group game in Agadir on Wednesday.

Cameroon, eliminated after consecutive defeats following a loss against Angola earlier on Saturday, face Burkina Faso in their final group game, where the Stallions will progress on goal difference only if they win, Congo beat Angola, and they overturn a four-goal swing.

Bakoua opened the scoring in the 67th minute after Burkinabe stopper Adama Sawadogo parried the ball into his path following a Varel Rozan free kick.

This strike broke the deadlock following an even and forgettable first half, and substitute Bidimbou killed any hope of a Burkinabe comeback at the death when he headed home in the third minute of second-half stoppage time with his first contribution of the game.
