Florent Malouda to play for French Guiana at Gold Cup

Former France international Florent Malouda is to represent French Guiana at the CONCACAF Gold Cup next month.

Delhi Dynamos winger Malouda, 37, was born in the overseas French territory and has been named in its squad for the tournament, which will be played between July 7-26 in the United States.

The ex-Chelsea star, who won 80 caps for France and played in the 2006 World Cup final, can represent the land of his birth as FIFA does not recognise French Guiana, but CONCACAF does.

French Guiana will be making their Gold Cup debut after qualifying by finishing third in the 2017 Caribbean Cup.

They have been drawn in Group A with Honduras, Costa Rica and Canada, and will kick off their group-stage campaign against the Canadians in Harrison, New Jersey, on July 7.
