U.S. to play Panama, Haiti, playoff winner in 2015 Gold Cup group stage

The United States will face Panama, Haiti, and the winner of a playoff between Honduras and French Guiana in Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage this summer.

The tournament will be played across 12 U.S. sites and Toronto from July 7-26.

The defending champion United States opens the Gold Cup against the playoff winners in Frisco, Texas, then plays Haiti on July 10 in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and completes the group stage against Panama in Kansas City, Kansas, in a rematch of the 2013 final.

The tournament draw, conducted in Philadelphia on Thursday, also sees Mexico joined by Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba in Group C, which will be played at NFL stadiums in Chicago, Arizona and Charlotte.

Costa Rica, El Salvador, Jamaica and Canada make up Group B, played at MLS stadiums in Los Angeles, Houston and Toronto.

The quarterfinals are set for Baltimore and East Rutherford, N.J., the semifinals are in Atlanta and the final in Philadelphia.

Honduras and French Guiana, which both finished fifth at the 2014 Copa Centroamericna and the Carribbean Cup respectively, will meet in a two-legged playoff this month to determine the final team in Group A.

The U.S., as winner of the 2013 Gold Cup, will secure a spot in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup if it wins this tournament as well. Should any other team win, it will compete in a playoff against the United States later this year to determine CONCACAF's representative in Russia.
