Sporting Kansas City, Vancouver Whitecaps drawn together in CCL

The Vancouver Whitecaps and Sporting Kansas City have been drawn together in the same group for the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League.

CONCACAF held the draw for the 2016-17 edition of the competition in Miami Beach on Monday night.

The four teams each from the United States and Mexico were separated into each of the eight groups, meaning the Whitecaps, who qualified by winning the 2015 Canadian Championship, were guaranteed to be drawn with either a fellow MLS side or a team from Liga MX.

The MLS champion Portland Timbers will face CD Dragon and Deportivo Saprissa.

Pachuca, fresh off of winning the Clausura title on Sunday night, were drawn with Police United and Club Olimpia Deportivo.

Defending champions Club America did not qualify for this year's tournament after failing to reach either the Apertura or Clausura finals.
