LA Galaxy lost a chance to earn the top seed for next year’s CONCACAF Champions League knockout stage after getting beat by El Salvador club Isidro Metapan 4-0 Thursday to finish sixth overall during the final night of group stage play.
The Galaxy, who finish their MLS regular-season schedule vs. Seattle on Sunday, had earlier clinched the group title with a win Sept. 25 at Cartagines and will face third-place finisher Club Tijuana when CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals start on March 11.
The other quarterfinal pairings for the region are Deportivo Toluca (1) vs. San Jose Earthquakes (8); Cruz Azul FC (2) vs. Sporting Kansas City (7) and Deportivo Árabe Unido (4) vs. LD Alajuelense (5).
First-leg matches are March 11-13 followed by return legs on March 18-20.
