Chris Pontius and Eddie Johnson scored as D.C. United beat Panamanian side Tauro FC 2-0 to clinch a spot in the knockout stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Pontius headed home Samuel Inkoom's cross in the 49th minute to give D.C. the lead in the 49th minute.

Johnson, playing in his first match in three weeks, extended the advantage four minutes late by slamming the ball off the crossbar and in.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Norberto Paparatto scored twice as the Portland Timbers defeated Alpha United 6-0 in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday night.

Gaston Fernandez, Jack Jewsbury, Michael Nanchoff and Fanendo Adi all also scored for the Timbers, who are making their first appearance in the premier club tournament for the North and Central American and Caribbean region. Portland qualified as Major League Soccer's Western Conference champion last year.

It's hard to discuss the recent action of the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) without highlighting the 10-1 win that America had over Puerto Rico Bayamon -- in Bayamon.

To be honest, I missed the first 20 minutes of the match, but after I saw that America were up 3-0 by the fifth minute of the game, it was easy to predict how the match would finish. In the end, America had 30 shots on net against the ill-fated Puerto Rican team.

America finished the match 10-1, a CCL record for most goals...

The Impact improved to 3-0-0 in group play, with one game left against New York (1-1-0) on Oct. 22 at Red Bull Arena.
