But for all their possession, Chelsea were never really at the races and Swansea fully deserve their place at Wembley next month.
The ballboy who was kicked by Chelsea's Eden Hazard is helped off the pitch
The post-match talk will all be about the Hazard red card as he was rightly sent off for brainlessly kicking a ballboy to try and get the ball back.
Swansea City will play in their first-ever major Cup final, taking on League Two heroes Bradford City at Wembley Stadium on February 24.
And that's it! The final whistle goes!
Fine shot from Dyer on the egde of the box! Cech palms it behind at full stretch. Good height for him though.
Swansea playing keep-ball. This is just a formality now.
Ki and Pablo take the corner short but Mata robs them instantly.
Ki looks for Dyer in the middle, Bertrand tracks the run and gives away a corner.
All very comfortable for the Swans.
Six minutes to be added on! You could add 60 and Chelsea wouldn't score.
Ki breaks through - he has to shoot first time but tries to take too many touches and is tackled.
Swansea fans starting to sing - it looks like they are finally starting to believe the job is done.
The ball comes to Ba in the box, he dithers and Swansea clear.
Ryan Bertrand is on for Ashley Cole. Giving up?
Chelsea unable to mount any kind of meaningful attack.
The young ballboy was in tears after that Hazard kick. He was wrong to smoother the ball, but Hazard's actions were just unbelievable.
Ki feeds Pablo on the left, he tries the sidefooted shot which is easy for Cech to hold.
Into the last seven minutes, and with ten men surely there is no way back for Chelsea.
Fernando Torres finally comes on for Oscar
Amazing scenes! Rafa Benitez is furious! But once it filtered back to the officials that Hazard had kicked a 12-year-old ballboy Chris Foy could only do one thing - send him off.
EDEN HAZARD IS OFF
Chris Foy talks to Hazard and Lampard, a long chat.
The ballboy looks hurt and there's arguments among the players. If that's been seen it has to be a red card.
The ballboy goes to get the ball and lies on top of it to stop Hazard reclaiming. Hazard them kicks out at the ballboy to get it back quickly!
Hazard feeds Azpilicueta on the right, and the one-two back to Hazard goes out for a goal-kick.
Here comes the boy wonder....
Luiz lofts a ball over the top from deep for Mata but only picks out Tremmel.
Swansea City to win, with bet365
Chelsea to win, with bet365
What you could really do with when you are 2-0 down in the second leg of a Cup semi is a £50 million striker..... Hmm.....
Good hit from Mata but it's well held by Tremmel low to his right - for a moment that looked like it would nestle in the corner.
Dyer tries to sweep a cross for the onrushing Michu but it's too far ahead of the forward and goes for a goal-kick.
Pablo crosses into the area, Cole heads away. Michu went down in the box but there was nothing in it.
Chelsea will need to get a shot on target if they are to score and get back into this game.
Mata takes, it's headed away by Michu but Ba is penalised for a foul on the Spaniard anyway.
Lampard and Hazard link up well, the Belgian's cross put behind for a corner.
An attacking change as David Luiz comes on for Ivanovic. Will he play in midfield?
Chelsea have offered very little in the first half of this, er, half.
Nathan Dyer replaces Wayne Routledge.
Rangel crosses from the right but it's just over the head of Michu.
Britton is back on, just to confirm.
Cole shoots from the egde of the box but hits it into Oscar and Swansea come away.
The free-kick is taken short to Lampard, who is allowed to stride forwad and shoot ... and find Row Z.
Britton suffered a head cut too and goes off for more treatment with a bandage bandana.
The decision went against Britton, and Chelsea will eventually have a free-kick mid-way in the Swansea half.
Leon Britton has a nasty gash on his knee and won't be able to continue until the blood has stopped. He somehow sustained it in a clash with Ramires.
How long before we see Fernando Torres and his freshly shaven locks?
Mata's volley is blocked, Ramires fails to connect cleanly with the rebound and it bounces ten yards wide of Tremmel's goal.
Swansea now on top, playing the ball around confidently.
You have to feel that Swansea are going to get more space to break into as Chelsea have to commit more men forward.
Swansea get through the first 10 minutes with not too much to be concerned about.
Swansea had three on two for a moment, but the pass selection is poor and Pablo's first touch lets him down.
Mata's corner is punched well away by Tremmel.
Corner to Chelsea.
Chelsea break straight up the other end but it results in a poor shot from Ba on the edge of the D, curled a few yards wide.
Nice play from Swansea as Pablo feeds in Rangel, but he wants to take too many touches and is tackled.
Williams boots the ball away just as Hazard tried to latch onto it. Fair challenge, Hazard rolls around like his career is over. He gets treatment.
Pablo is offside as De Guzman tries to slip him through the middle.
No changes at the break, and Swansea start the second half sitting back again.
Swansea kick off.
The players are on their way back out.

So far, so good for Swansea but there's plenty to be concerned about as Chelsea camp in the Swans' half.
Oscar tries to find the run of Lampard in the box, Williams hoofs to safety.
Davies and Routledge get themselves in a mess, it drops for Ba to shoot from 10 yards out but he blasts way over. Half chance.
Two minutes to be added on.
Lampard so close to feeding in Ramires, fine interception from Williams once again.
Lampard feed Cole on the left, but his cross is too hard and has to be picked up by Oscar on the right... and comes to nothing.
Chelsea still to make Tremmel properly work.
Ki is back on.
Ki hobbles back to the sidelines, looks like he is going to be okay to continue.
Ki is down needing treatment.
Ki is caught on his ankle by Ramires' challenge - no foul and it is lucky and Hazard was almost through, but offisde.
Lampard has been very quiet in this game, sitting in a deeper role and letting the younger legs push forward.
Pinball in the Swansea area yet again, Oscar this time unable to fire off a shot and Tremmel gets lucky again.
Ba tries an acrobatic shot but he's shut out by Rangel.
Swansea need a outlet, need to shot more attacking intent. They can't survive this all night.
Awful pass out left from Ramires, hit straight out of play.
The Swansea fans are definitely nervous now, Chelsea getting more dominant.
Mata and Oscar desperately try to latch onto Hazard's shot as it deflects and pings around the box - it just won't fall for them and Tremmel is able to claim.
De Guzman tries to volley a cross back across goal but gets it all wrong and it's a goal kick.
Awful kick from Tremmel goes straight to Hazard, who passes to Mata in the box - but the Spaniard wants a touch before crossing and by that time it's blocked.
Davies does well to track back and win the ball off Mata after needlessly giving it away himself.
Ba slids a pass through to Oscar and he's almost in - Rangel does well to guide the ball out for a goal-kick though.
De Guzman hits an aimless ball over the top and gifts possession back to the visitors.
Ramires shoots from over 30 yards but it's too close to Tremmel who holds.
Pablo feeds Michu through the middle but the flag goes up for offside. They'll get one of these right eventually.
The corner comes in from the right first time, Cahill rises to head towards goal but Williams is on the line and comfortably heads away the danger. Better from Chelsea.
Brilliant run from Cole to burst in towards the byline in the box. He fires a ball across the face of goal and Williams deflects behind for a corner. No one made ground in support of Cole - poor.
It's taken short, and Mata delivers at the second time of asking but it's too strong for a Chelsea man to get onto it.
Hazard spins and shoots from the edge of the box, deflected behind for the corner.
Passes going astray badly in the last couple of minutes from both sides.
Almost on cue Michu nods down for the onrushing De Guzman who takes a touch before shooting from the edge of the box - blocked.
But the opening goal in this game is going to be so important. If Swansea get it you think it would be game over.
Chelsea have no need to panic at the moment, they know the difference one goal will make. Plenty of time yet.
Cheers from the Swansea fans as Ashley Cole miscontrols and it goes out for a throw.
Chico is penalised for dragging back Ba on the half-way line.
Swansea growing in confidence.
Cole stares at Cech after chasing back and clearing into touch. Looks like he wanted help from his keeper.
Suddenly the mood swings. Now Swansea look the more hungry and are getting in amongst Chelsea.
So close to the opener! Michu is sent through on goal by Routledge and looks to have placed it in the corner before Cech's arm shoots out to push it away.
The corner comes in from the left, headed away to safety from inside the six-yard box.
Straight up the other end as Swansea break, Routledge is picked out in space in the box and his powerful drive deflects behind for a corner.
Ba goes down under the challenge of Davies, he screams for a penalty but referee Chris Foy says no. Correct decision, Ba put his leg onto Davies to try and win the pen.
Swansea very happy for Chelsea to have the ball, playing in a very similar way to they way they did at Stamford Bridge.
Ivanovic looks for a long ball over the top from half-way and hits it straight out for a goal-kick.
Opta stat: Juan Mata has either scored (two) or assisted (four) six goals in five League Cup appearances.
Chelsea enjoying possession, taking no risks yet.
Both sides sizing each other up in the early exchanges.
History is on Swansea's side - no team has overturned a two-goal deficit in the semi=finals of the League Cup.
Chelsea kick off!
Out come the players, unlike Villa - and Chelsea last season - the Swansea fans have not been handed plastic flags to wave.
Swansea have named the same team which won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Rafael Benitez opts for Demba Ba instead of Fernando Torres in a bid to overturn a two-goal deficit. Torres, without a goal since December 23, drops to the bench while Frank Lampard skippers the side with John Terry and David Luiz among the subs.
Chelsea team: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cesar, Cole, Ramires, Lampard, Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Demba Ba.
Swansea team: Tremmel, Rangel, Williams, Chico, Davies, Britton, de Guzman, Ki, Routledge, Hernandez, Michu
