2 - 1
FULL TIME - and there is the final whistle. A very good game, and the epitome of a game of two halves. United on top in the opener, Liverpool dominant in the closer. But crucially, Man Utd hold on to move ten points clear at the top.
A very poor tackle from Agger on Cleverley. And that should be that.
Excellent from RVP to get into the box and buy United some time to waste.
Great ball in from Sturridge and Suarez takes it off Borini with a header that loops up for De Gea. He had his back to goal, Borini was running onto it.
Outrageous flick from Van Persie, who had had a quiet second half, but Reina is alive to save at his near post.
Four added minutes...
Skrtel wins a free kick and it is taken quickly to Sturridge, he shields the ball well but greedily tries to score from the byline. He has to keep it alive.
Gerrard fouls Carrick to break up another Liverpool siege. Suarez skirted round the box and nearly drew a foul.
Manchester United are penned in their own half. They can't get out.
Liverpool are all over United here and Sturridge again blows a good chance, choosing to control a dipping ball rather than thump it. Eventually Suarez is crowded out.
What a miss! Suarez, amazingly, keeps hold of the ball in the face of about five separate challenges, the ball eventually breaks for Sturridge, who side-foots over from eight yards. Oh dear, what an opportunity.
Have Liverpool got enough left in the tank to rescue a point?
An ironic cheer from the home fans as Henderson misplaces a pass.
A brilliant run from Welbeck down the left, he swaps passes with RVP and gets to the byline but then falls over before he was about to cross. He shares a smile with Sturridge, his big mate, who tracked him all the way.
Joe Allen trots off after a difficult afternoon, Jordan Henderson.
Vidic departs and Smalling replaces him.
Downing gets a good block in to defend Evra's attempted cross. Corner.
Phil Jones on to shore things up as Kagawa goes off.
Evra streaks away with the ball and Johnson cuts him down. Nailed on card.
Manchester United to win, with bet365
Liverpool to win, with bet365
Superb ball in from Gerrard, and though Vidic got his head on it Webb gives a goal kick. Oh dear.
Evra is carded when he thought Downing was going to get booked for diving. He's got a point, the defender.
Liverpool a completely different team with Borini, Sturridge and Suarez all on the pitch.
Liverpool are well on top now as Borini fires a volley a yard wide of goal. Sturridge did well to pressure Evra and win the ball back.
Super ball from Suarez for Sturridge and he gets a yard on Ferdinand but fires meekly wide of the near post. Had to go across goal.
Sturridge looks for Suarez inside the area but the Uruguayan can't control it. Unlike him but the ball was fired quite fast.
Johnson cuts inside Valencia and strikes on goal but that was never troubling the net.
Wisdom wins a brave header from the corner and denies Vidic a chance to score. Excellent defending.
Fabulous save from Reina! Welbeck's run on goal is halted but the ball rolls nicely for Kagawa who looks for the far corner but is denied by a flying Spaniard.
Sterling comes off after an ineffectual afternoon and Fabio Borini is on. Liverpool showing their new-found striking wealth.
RVP's free kick hits the wall and Evra is facing the wrong way after the deflection so can't capitalise on the loose ball.
Gerrard tugs RVP down right on the edge of the box. The striker will fancy this one.
Game on now. Manchester United took their eye off the ball for a second thinking they had done enough.
A good hit from Gerrard and a good save from de Gea but he palmed it straight out and Sturridge reacted far quicker than Rafael.
GOAL Sturridge pulls one back after Gerrard's shot is palmed out by De Gea.
The defending from that set piece was bordering on criminal. Johnson lost Evra and Vidic was free too.
And just like that, Liverpool's mini-revival is over. How often do you see a team waste a great chance, then concede moments later?
Superb delivery from RVP, a towering header from Evra, it takes a flick off Vidic and flies past Reina.
GOAL RVP crosses for Evra to nod home!
Skrtel gets the wrong side of Welbeck as Evra floats a ball over the top. A definite foul but Reina was out. A tricky one that. Yellow is the call.
A neat move ends with space for Wisdom but his effort on goal was clearly that of a defender as he skews a shot wide from 16 yards out.
Better from Liverpool - they look better with two up top - but Sterling wastes a good chance to get in the area.
RVP goes for goal but gets it all wrong. High, wide and not very handsome.
Joe Allen upends Kagawa - odd that he didn't go off instead of Lucas - and he is lucky not to get a yellow. Free kick 25 yards out and central.
Space for Sturridge on the edge of the box but he neglects to shoot - odd for him - and instead tries to find Suarez but Vidic cuts out the pass.
We begin again with changes - Valencia replaces Young, who took a knock at the end of the half and Lucas is replaced by Daniel Sturridge.
A welcome pre-match sight
Surely Brendan Rodgers has to change something at half time - Liverpool were outplayed and outfought in that opening half.
Van Persie gives Man Utd the lead
HALF TIME - and after five minutes of added time that is the break - an entertaining half and Man Utd good value for their lead. Set up nicely...
Lucas trips Young, who unleashes a dive worthy of Spalsh. First card.
Very brave keeping from Reina and after lengthy treatment he is alright to continue. Liverpool lucky to cling on then.
What a scramble! Rafael does extremely well to beat Johnson but he's off balance, his stabbed pass is flicked goalwards by RVP but a combination of Skrtel and Reina stop it before Kagawa thumps into the goalkeeper, who is down.
Another defensive mistake, this time from Wisdom, but Skrtel is in quickly on Welbeck to snuff out the danger.
An ominous stat for Liverpool - Man Utd have never lost from a winning position at half time under Ferguson in the Premier League.
Suarez wins a corner as he tries to jink past Vidic on the byline.
What a thump from Cleverley! A cross is cleared to him and his left foot volley flashes inches wide of the far post. What a hit.
Liverpool really haven't helped themselves at the back with some risky, misplaced passing. Reina has to come out to the flank to clear another one and shanks his clearance out for a throw.
Sturridge looks on ruefully on the bench.
Terrible from Gerrard, truly terrible. Suarez gets space and Liverpool have numbers forward, he offloads to Gerrard but the return ball is right through to De Gea.
A first effort of the match from Suarez as he volleys on goal from a tight angle but blazes high and wide.
Another chance for Welbeck as he edges past Skrtel and makes room for a shot but he blazes over the bar from 10 yards out when he really should be hitting the target.
A promising move for Liverpool breaks down as Suarez can't collect a pass from Johnson after a nice one-two with Sterling.
An awful mistake from Allen hands Welbeck the ball, he jinks outside and shoots but Agger makes a vital block.
Young is back on but trotting gingerly as RVP is whistled for a foul.
Valencia warms up as Young limps off the field.
United were actually on the attack when Young went down and Kagawa had a chance to get into the box but he stalled and then Cleverley knocked the ball out of play.
Young is down after a cruncher from Agger - his knee bent the wrong way when he fell and the defender landed on top of him. That could be nasty.
Lucas is penalised for a foul in midfield on Cleverley. Very little penetration up front for Liverpool in the opening half hour.
Allen is not having a good day so far - his pass looking for Suarez is hugely ambitious and rolls out for a goal kick.
And now RVP wastes a good chance to make it 2-0 as he runs into space and is found by Young - his first time effort from 16 yards loops over the bar.
Excellent pressing from Allen as Evra dawdles inside the area but he doesn't win a corner.
Johnson takes on Young but can't keep his cross in play. He's good with his weaker, left foot but that was poor.
Wisdom charges down the right and crosses but Ferdinand is in the way. Liverpool coming into a little more now.
Gerrard very nearly gifts RVP a clear run on goal with an awful pass but he gets back to tidy up his own mess.
Allen is late on Carrick and he gets a talking to from Webb. No card yet though, which is positive.
Agger at fault there - he HAS to be tighter than that when balls come into the box. RVP only needs a matter of inches to be able to find the net.
Neat build up to create space down the left, Evra drives in a low cross and RVP steals a yard on Agger to fire past Reina. Super finish.
GOAL RVP finds the net!
Good run down the right from Welbeck, he cuts in and finds Cleverley in space and his little pass into the area for RVP is neat but Skrtel is across to block the shot.
Suarez tries to dink the ball past Vidic and run round him but the defender is a big lad and Suarez couldn't quite manage to circumnavigate his burly frame.
Good work from Johnson as he tackles RVP then goes in strongly to win a free kick off Ashley Young. Commitment.
Rafael heads down the right and looks for Young but Johnson intervenes.
Evra clatters Suarez as they challenge for a header. Liverpool free kick 45 yards from goal.
Reina tidies up as Skrtel's header inside his own box runs loose with Welbeck chasing.
Agger gets tight to RVP - too tight. Tattoo tight. Gives away a foul.
Gerrard swings in a free kick that Vidic nods clear, then Lucas fouls Welbeck.
Reina nearly gives the ball away dangerously, then does on his second attempt, luckily for him the eventual shot on goal from RVP is blocked and deflects up into his arms. Very risky from the goalkeeper.
Awful corner from Young and as the ball loops up Kagawa fouls Sterling.
Wisdom does well again to get a foot in as Kagawa runs at him but he does concede a corner.
Terrible ball in from Kagawa as he cut onto his right foot. Decent atmosphere, as you'd expect. No love lost.
Evra gets wide and crosses but Reina claims, then he tracks Suarez who drifts out to the flank and then gets into the area. Well defended by Carrick.
Liverpool working very hard to close the ball down, as is their usual style. Ferdinand and Vidic under pressure near the halfway line.
Kagawa tries to float an early ball into the box but Wisdom did well to block and divert the ball back to Reina.
A bitty start, and a cheer from the home crowd as Suarez misplaces a pass to Sterling.
Jose Mourinho is in the house, and the teams are in the tunnel. Man Utd can go ten points clear at the top with a win, Liverpool can level on points with Arsenal, but the Gunners play Manchester City at 4pm.
Its a game that pits the two hottest strikers in the Premier League against each other as 16-goal Robin van Persie squares up against 15-goal Luis Suarez, who I'm sure will get a tasty reception from the home fans.
So, it's the big one - the two most successful clubs in the history of English football go head to head at Old Trafford, hopefully with fewer fireworks than we got last year.
