Zenit St Petersburg's Danny injures knee, out of Portugal's Euro 2016

Danny, right, was injured in Saturday's match against Spartak.

Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Danny has been ruled out of Portugal's Euro 2016 campaign after tearing ligaments in his knee on Saturday against Spartak Moscow.

The club confirmed the news on Monday, stating the player suffered a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee that will require surgery.

Axel Witsel: I've not 'closed the door' on staying at Zenit St Petersburg

Axel Witsel has been linked with a summer exit from Zenit St Petersburg.

Axel Witsel has said he could still be a Zenit St Petersburg player next season, despite reports claiming he is set to leave the club in the summer.

Witsel, 27, has been linked with a move to a number of clubs of late, with Tottenham and Chelsea reported to be possible destinations for the Belgium international.

However, Witsel has said that while it has been hard to escape the speculation, there is still a possibility he could remain at Zenit this summer.

Paulo Sousa had Fiorentina as early title contenders but they are now 20 points off Serie A leaders Juventus.

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa insists he is 100 percent committed to the Serie A club despite spending an evening with representatives of Russian Premier League side Zenit St Petersburg last week.

Zenit's current coach, Andre Villas-Boas, recently announced he will be leaving the club in June when his contract expires and is likely to take a sabbatical from the game.

Andre Villas-Boas 'most likely' will take sabbatical despite Valencia links

Andre Villas-Boas' second year at Zenit will be his last.

Andre Villas-Boas says he will "most likely" take a year off after leaving Zenit St Petersburg at the end of this season.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham boss said in September that he would leave the club when his contract expires in June.

But despite links to the Valencia job vacated by Gary Neville last week, Villas-Boas said he's ready to take a sabbatical from coaching.

He told Zenit's official website: "No, my decision is taken for the end of the season, I've booked my vacation.

Axel Witsel reaffirms desire to depart Zenit St Petersburg this summer

Axel Witsel is more than ready to move on from Zenit St Petersburg.

Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel says he wants to leave the Russian club to play in a more prominent league.

Witsel was close to a move to AC Milan in the summer and expressed his disappointment when the move fell through.
