York City's Jackie McNamara leaves club, replaced by ... Jackie McNamara

Jackie McNamara has had a difficult start to the new season with relegated York.

After a dreadful start to life in non-league football following their relegation from the Football League last season, York City have parted company with manager Jackie McNamara.

Things were so bad that in the wake of a 6-1 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Guiseley last week, McNamara publicly gave himself a one-match ultimatum.

York went on to draw 1-1 against Braintree but still the former Scottish international has himself dismissed from his post -- well, sort of anyway.

"Following the game on Saturday, it has been decided, in the best interest of York City Football Club, that Jackie McNamara step down as First Team Manager, " the club confirmed in a statement.

"After purposeful discussions it was agreed that results and performances, in the main, have not been acceptable nor have they achieved the high standards expected."

However, the Minstermen also confirmed they have hired an interim manager in the shape of a man who should be instantly familiar to the club's beleaguered supporters.

"In order to assist the managerial transition period and to accommodate a thorough identification, interview and appointment process, the Chairman has asked Jackie McNamara to train and prepare the team until a suitable candidate has been determined.

"This process should be completed within two weeks," they added.

So, Jackie McNamara has officially been brought in as his own caretaker manager.
