Western Sydney Wanderers agree contract extension with Tony Popovich

Western Sydney have extended the contract of Tony Popovic throught the 2017-18 season.

SYDNEY -- Reigning Asian club champion Western Sydney extended the contract of coach Tony Popovic to the end of the 2017-18 season despite a disappointing A-League campaign.

Popovic, the Asian confederation's coach of the year and former Crystal Palace captain, led the Wanderers to a runners-up finish in their inaugural 2012-13 A-League season and again the following year.

GUANGZHOU, China -- The Western Sydney Wanderers' Asian Champions League title defence ended Tuesday despite a 2-0 away victory over Guangzhou Evergrande, with FC Seoul moving into the knockout stage with a late 3-2 win over Kashima Antlers.

The Wanderers entered the last match in Group H needing to beat 2013 champion Guangzhou, which had already secured a spot in the round of 16, and relying on a draw at Kashima.

The Western Sydney team ensured its part of the equation with Mark Bridge scoring...

Western Sydney and Brisbane ACL hopes hang in balance

A late goal from Awer Mabil ended Brisbane Roar's season and sent Adelaide through to a grand final qualifier against Sydney FC.

Defending champions Western Sydney Wanderers and fellow A-League side Brisbane Roar have their AFC Champions League hopes in the balance ahead of Tuesday's final group matches of the elite continental competition.

Western Sydney face 2013 winners Guangzhou Evergrande away while Brisbane host Urawa Red Diamonds in the Gold Coast.

In Group H, Wanderers will travel to China needing to win and hoping that the game in Japan between Kashima Antlers and FC Seoul will end in a stalemate.

In Group G, Brisbane...
