Western Sydney Wanderers 'have to work harder' after FFA Cup thrashing - Markus Babbel

New Western Sydney Wanderers coach Markus Babbel has promised his side will work harder and change their mentality after a disastrous 3-0 home loss to local rivals Sydney FC in Saturday's FFA Cup semifinal.

The Wanderers couldn't convert several good chances in the first hour and were made to pay by the more clinical Sky Blues.

Babbel says Sydney's first goal was down to a Wanderers mistake and the third came from a penalty he felt shouldn't have been awarded, but lamented his sides inability to...

Western Sydney Wanderers sign ex-Victory midfielder Rashid Mahazi

Usain Bolt is hoping to repay Central Coast's faith in him by finding the back of the net.

Western Sydney Wanderers have added to their midfield stocks by signing former Melbourne Victory player Rashid Mahazi for the 2018-19 A-League season.

Mahazi made over 90 appearances for the Victory, coming off the bench late in both their 2014-15 grand final and 2015 FFA Cup final wins.

The defensive midfielder joins the Wanderers from Victorian National Premier League club Moreland Zebras.

Wanderers play local rivals Sydney FC in an FFA Cup semifinal at Penrith Stadium on Saturday night.

Western Sydney Wanderers' Josh Risdon open to overseas 'opportunity'

Socceroos and Western Sydney Wanderers defender Josh Risdon is open to the idea of a move abroad after his World Cup breakthrough.

Risdon nailed down the right-back spot at Russia 2018, starting all of Australia's group games.

"It's massive for me to play and start all three games. I draw a lot confidence from that, playing against some of the biggest players in the world," Risdon said.

"Hopefully I can bring that back here and spread that throughout the team."

Asked about suggestions of a move...

Adelaide, Western Sydney Wanderers join APIA and Heidelberg in FFA Cup quarterfinals

Adelaide United and the Western Sydney Wanderers have snuffed out stern challenges from state-league opponents to scrape into to the FFA Cup quarterfinals.

The Reds exorcised their demons at the venue where they were famously knocked out of the tournament two years ago by Redlands United, beating newly-crowned Queensland NPL premiers Lions FC 1-0 on Wednesday night.

And new recruit Alexander Baumjohann starred on debut as the Wanderers prevailed 2-1 against newly-relegated NSW NPL outfit Bonnyrigg...

Western Sydney Wanderers can't be complacent vs. Bonnyrigg - Markus Babbel

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Markus Babbel says his players would be "stupid" if they haven't learned from their near-disaster in the FFA Cup earlier this month.

The Wanderers dodged a bullet in the round of 32 against part-timers Hellenic Athletic, who threatened a huge upset when they fought back to level the scores twice before the A-League side prevailed 4-3.

They face another tricky task on Wednesday night in their round of 16 clash with close neighbours Bonnyrigg White Eagles.

But Babbel...
