A-League an attractive proposition for Spaniards, says Phoenix star

Spanish players will continue to be attracted in increasing numbers to the Australian A-League, according to Wellington Phoenix's Tenerife-born midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin.

It hasn't been a happy finals' series for the Australia's Spanish contingent with the Josep Gombau-coached Adelaide United losing 4-1 to Sydney FC in Saturday's semifinal -- with four Spanish nationals featuring for the Reds. Last weekend Rodriguez's Phoenix were also knocked out of the end-of-season competition with a 2-0...

Melbourne City beat Wellington Phoenix to reach A-League semifinals

Melbourne City beat Wellington Phoenix 2-0 to set up an A-League semi-final showdown against city rivals Melbourne Victory.

City will now meet the Victory next Friday for a place in the May 15 final, while Sydney FC and Adelaide United will contest the second semifinal on...

However, each team will fancy their chances of upsetting the Victory, and each will have their own reasons for wanting to see...

Melbourne Victory claim Premiers' Plate after win over Mariners

Melbourne Victory celebrate with the Premiers' Plate after victory over Central Coast Mariners.

Melbourne Victory guaranteed themselves the A-League Premiers' Plate with a 3-1 home triumph over the Central Coast Mariners on the final day of the regular season.

Daniel Georgievski and Archie Thompson fired the hosts into a two-goal lead with strikes just two minutes apart shortly after the half-hour mark.

Eddy Bosnar halved the deficit with a deflected free kick on the stroke of half-time, but any hopes the visitors harboured of a comeback were quashed two minutes after the restart when Besart...
