A late own-goal secured all three-points for the Phoenix as they claimed a 2-1 win over Perth Glory.

Roy Krishna was the returning Phoenix hero and Diego Castro the Perth villain on Saturday in a dramatic 2-1 A-League win for the hosts in Wellington.

In a match important for two ailing sides, Glory defender Shane Lowry scored an own-goal in stoppage time to hand Wellington just their fourth win of the season.

It came from Krishna's sharp cross, marking a brilliant return for the Fijian international, who had missed three games while in an apparent dispute with his club.

The Wellington Phoenix suffered a second consecutive 4-0 defeat at the hand of another Sydney side as the Wanderers jump back into the top six.

A Chris Ikonomidis-inspired Western Sydney have further buried Wellington's woeful A-League season, seeing off the Kiwi side 4-0 at ANZ Stadium.

Oriol Riera drew first blood before goals to Michael Thwaite, Ikonomidis and Jaushua Sotirio broke the Wanderers' second-half hoodoo on Sunday night, ensuring the at-times wasteful side recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this campaign to climb back into sixth.

From a total 33 shots, the hosts managed 11 on target and, fortunately for coach Josep...

New Zealand international Shane Smeltz confirms his retirement

Shane Smeltz sits second on the A-League's all-time record goal-scoring list with 92 goals.

Two-time A-League golden boot winner Shane Smeltz says his 18-year professional football career is over.

The 36-year-old -- who last played for Borneo FC in Indonesia -- earned 58 caps for the New Zealand between 2003 and 2017 and nabbed 24 goals.

He scored the goal in the All White's famous 1-1 draw with Italy at the 2010 World Cup.

An old-fashioned, predatory No. 9, German-born Gold Coast-raised Smeltz also played for clubs in Australia, England, Turkey and Malaysia.

He scored 24 goals in 51 Nix...
