Dwight Gayle struck a hat trick to fire Crystal Palace to victory.

Dwight Gayle's first-half hat trick eased managerless Crystal Palace's woes as they cruised past Walsall 3-0 in the Capital One Cup.

The striker made light of the Eagles' chaotic start to the season with a clinical treble to seal the game before the break.

It was a comfortable and controlled victory for Palace and caretaker boss Keith Millen, who took charge for the third time after the departure of Tony Pulis almost two weeks ago.

And any future manager would have been impressed with Gayle as ...

A turgid affair between Leyton Orient and Walsall at Brisbane Road was summed up with the 0-0 scoreline.

However, the Saddlers should have come away with all three points. A back pass by O's Matthieu Baudry caught goalkeeper Adam Legzdins unaware and his poor touch fell to Anthony Forde who tried unsuccessfully to back heel the ball into the net from just four yards out.

Neither team composed too much by way of realistic threats on goal with the few chances coming from distance, although the secon...

Yeovil scored their first league goals and collected their first League One win of the season at the expense of struggling Walsall who were beaten 2-1 at the Banks's Stadium.

James Hayter put them in front with a bullet header from a Kevin Dawson cross in the 56th minute, and Dawson himself added the second in a goalmouth scramble in the 73rd minute.

The Glovers' clinching goal came a minute after Tom Bradshaw had equalised for Walsall who paid the price or some poor first-half finishing.

Both side...

Walsall had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw with Bradford at the Banks's Stadium.

The closest either side came to a goal was when Saddlers skipper Adam Chambers saw his thunderous stoppage-time drive brilliantly saved by Jordan Pickford.

It meant both teams remain unbeaten so far and Pickford, on loan from Sunderland, played a major part in keeping out the impressive hosts.

Walsall enjoyed the majority of the possession but could not break down a rugged Bradford defence in which centre-backs An...

Walsall were forced to dig deep to see off a determined Southend 2-1 at Roots Hall in the Capital One Cup.

Kieron Morris' late strike secured a second round slot for the Saddlers but only after Dean Smith's side had withstood sustained spells of pressure from the Shrimpers.

Walsall went in front in the 25th minute when Mal Benning fired home Andy Taylor's left-wing cross.

Southend equalised in the 68th minute when Ryan Leonard slammed home a stunning 25-yard shot.

Shaq Coulthirst then came close to ...
