Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem completes loan move to VVV Venlo

Gedion Zelalem has completed a loan move to Dutch second-division club VVV Venlo for the rest of the season, Arsenal have confirmed.

The United States under-23 international, who spent last season at Scottish club Rangers, made two substitute appearances for Arsenal in the EFL Cup this season but has yet to make his way into Arsene Wenger's first-team plans.

The 20-year-old Zelalem, who was born in Germany, had looked close to a move to Borussia Dortmund but instead becomes the latest Arsenal youngster...

Gedion Zelalem is near a move to Dutch VVV Venlo.

Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem is being lined up for a loan move to Dutch side VVV Venlo, sources close to the player have confirmed to ESPN FC.

Borussia Dortmund considered a move for Zelalem in this month's transfer window before opting against the move and it has left the way clear for Venlo to land the United States youth international on a temporary basis.

The pending move was earlier reported by Dutch outlet Telesport, which said a deal could be done by Tuesday.

U20 star Harry Ascroft gets A-League chance with Central Coast

Ascroft left Dutch club VVV-Venlo to return to Australia where he will turn out for A-League club Central Coast Mariners.

Australia U20 defender Harry Ascroft has given up the chance to continue his European career to sign with A-League club the Central Coast Mariners on a three-year deal.

Ascroft arrives at the Mariners after two seasons with Dutch second tier club, VVV-Venlo, where he made seven first team appearances.

The 20-year-old can play central defender or full-back and will add to the options for head coach Tony Walmsley who has freshened up his squad with some youthful additions at the Gosford-based club.
