America's win in the Clasico Joven moves it up in the Power Rankings

The ESPN FC crew predict a suspension for Juan Arango's for biting an opponent, but do not expect the same sort as Luis Suarez did.
Oribe Peralta's winner in the Clasico Joven for Club America over Cruz Azul helped the inconsistent club secure a vital three points and third place in this week's Power Rankings.

There was a total of 31 times that the 18 teams scored over the weekend. Most noticeably, the games between Leon vs Queretaro and Club Tijuana vs Monterrey had an astonishing total of 16 goals.

With only two draws and little lack of excitement from the weekend, let's check out the recent updated Power Rankings for the Liga MX.

1. Veracruz (no change)

Despite the 3-1 loss to Tigres on Saturday, Veracruz is still No. 1 in the rankings. The recent lack of wins for first-place Club Tijuana and a near-defeat...

Club America are stalking first-place Tijuana, while Pachuca are in freefall

Michael Arroyo provided the only goal America needed to beat Santos and help his team move up two spots in this week's Power Rankings.

Last weekend, Club Tijuana proved that Los Xolos are still the team to beat in the Liga MX, while Chivas may have proved that Los Rojiblancos should continue to deserve a spot in the league.

Over in Morelia, La Monarquia helped Leones Negros continue its rapid ascension at the same time that Puebla has started to stumble in the relegation race.

Here are the updated power rankings for the 2015 Liga MX Clausura:

Desperation breeds competition in Liga MX

Rodolfo Cota and Puebla are turning their relegation worries into hopes of a title run.
Rodolfo Cota and Puebla are turning their relegation worries into hopes of a title run.

LOS ANGELES, CA. -- While Club America manager Gustavo Matosas' "Ferrari" may or may not start up and while Tigres head coach Ricardo "El Tuca" Ferretti sends unfortunate signals from the Estadio Jalisco box, "others," from another dimension, are standing up for the Mexican championship.

It is neither America nor Tigres. The new landscape of the Mexican season is born of necessity, a necessity from which we can learn, develop and change. It is strange and mysterious, but Mexican soccer has three...

Leones Negros move up Power Rankings after another big upset

Leones Negros celebrate the game-winning goal scored by Fidel Martínez in the 74th minute.

The obvious change in this week's Liga MX power rankings is the significant rise of Leones Negros. The newly-promoted squad from last year defeated America and Tigres in its last two league games.

With Veracruz continuing to find success and Leones Negros pushing for recent wins, the relegation battle has now focused on Chivas and Puebla -- two teams who will face-off this Saturday.

At the top of the rankings, Club Tijuana still appear to be the in-form team, while others like Cruz Azul and Leon...

Veracruz ascending Liga MX table behind new attacking philosophy

Veracruz manager Carlos Reinoso has instilled a new attacking mentality at the club that has seen them climb the Liga MX table.

Veracruz, one of the four relegation candidates for this Clausura, have surpassed all expectations and are currently sitting in second place in the Liga MX table. And that may not actually be that surprising.

Last season, the club finished in second-to-last place. After 17 matches, the squad collected three wins and only scored eight goals throughout the Apertura tournament. It was a horrific season for the team and one that made the club a likely candidate for relegation.

Yet, amid the mess...
