ESPN FC's Liga MX Clausura Awards: Best player, signing, biggest flop, more

The Liga MX Clausura regular season has come to a close, and what better way to round up the action as we head into the Liguilla than with our awards? ESPN FC asked our experts Tom Marshall, Nayib Moran, Cesar Hernandez and Eric Gomez for their picks for best player, biggest flop and more:

Liga MX ugly duckling Veracruz a soap opera as team slides toward relegation

There are a lot of reasons to be upbeat about the future of Liga MX. Average attendance is high, the quality of play and players is good and improving and there appears -- on paper, at least -- to be a drive toward promoting the league outside of Mexico.

Chivas cruising 2-0 up at half-time against relegation-threatened Chiapas and then crashing to a 4-3 loss last Sunday has, in many ways, summed up the whole Clausura to date. It's been almost entirely unpredictable.

The league table right now looks a little like somebody has picked balls out of a pot and slotted them...

Violence in stands mars Liga MX match between Veracruz and Tigres

A Liga MX soccer match between Veracruz and Tigres UANL was marred by violence when fans from both sides confronted each other in the stands of Veracruz's Luis 'Pirata' Fuente stadium.

Tigres players on the pitch motioned to their fans to leave the stadium following full time.

A visibly irate club manager Ricardo 'Tuca' Ferretti had to be held by back star player Andre-Pierre Gignac after getting into a shoving and shouting match with a police officer on the pitch.

Fans pelted the field with objects...

Monterrey tops Liga MX Power Rankings ahead of Apertura 2016

Carlos Sanchez
Carlos Sanchez and Monterrey are top candidates to win the Apertura 2016.

With just two days left before the start of the Liga MX Apertura 2016, here are our Liga MX Power Rankings entering the new campaign.

1. MONTERREY: The 2010 Apertura was the the last time Monterrey lifted the Liga MX title. Since then, Los Rayados have gone on to become one of the most advanced clubs in Mexico -- opening the impeccable Estadio BBVA Bancomer in August 2015 and consistently bringing in top talent. Edwin Cardona, Dorlan Pabon and Carlos Sanchez are still around, securing La...
