England advanced to the knockout stage of the Under-20 World Cup on Friday by beating hosts South Korea 1-0 to top Group A.

Kieran Dowell's second-half goal ensured the Young Lions reached the second round with South Korea also qualifying as group runners-up.

Dowell swept in 11 minutes after the break, back-heeling a pass to Jonjoe Kelly and then positioning himself for the return pass and a shot into the far corner.

SEOUL, South Korea -- An own goal by England defender Fikayo Tomori handed Guinea a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at the Under-20 World Cup.

Tomori, who is contracted to Chelsea, put the ball in his own net in the 59th minute while attempting a backpass to goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who was standing outside the penalty area and tried to kick the ball clear as it passed him.

SEOUL, South Korea -- England defeated six-time champions Argentina 3-0 on the opening day of the 2017 Under-20 World Cup on Saturday for their first win in the tournament since 1997.

Argentina went down to 10 men in the second half of the Group A match after a video review system was used for the second time in a FIFA tournament, following the 2016 Club World Cup.
