New York City FC beat Orlando City as Pirlo makes MLS debut

Cyle Larin's hat trick for Orlando City was outdone as New York City FC sealed a 5-3 win at Yankee Stadium.

David Villa scored two goals to help New York City FC overcome a hat trick by Cyle Larin and beat Orlando City 5-3 on Sunday.

Villa's second goal, his 12th of the season, broke a 2-2 tie in the 67th minute, Thomas MacNamara added another in the 71st and NYCFC led the rest of the way.

Larin's final goal pulled Orlando City (6-9-6) within 4-3 in the 85th, but after Kaka hit the post on a free kick that would have tied it in stoppage time, Mix Diskerud broke out and capped the scoring seconds later.

Kei Kamara, Sebastian Giovinco named to MLS All-Star gameday squad

ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno is at odds as to why Sebastian Giovinco was left off the MLS All Start XI.
ESPN FC's Dan Thomas plays a cruel prank on Kei Kamara that Giovani dos Santos was chosen to play in the MLS All Star game over the Columbus Crew striker.

Major League Soccer's top two scorers Kei Kamara and Sebastian Giovinco were among those selected to the MLS All-Star Game gameday squad on Saturday.

Neither player had been voted to the Fan XI last week, but they were chosen to play by coach Pablo Mastroeni.

Kamara, of the Columbus Crew, has 13 goals, while Toronto FC's Giovinco scored his 12th on Saturday.

The full list of Mastroeni's selections:

Goalkeepers: David Ousted (Vancouver Whitecaps)

Defenders: Tony Beltran, (Real Salt Lake),  Laurent...

New York City FC, Toronto FC draw in eight-goal thriller

Sebastian Giovinco inspired Toronto FC to overcome a two-goal deficit and earn a wild 4-4 draw with NYCFC in New York.

Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco scored three times in nine minutes, but Patrick Mullins' goal in the 84th minute gave New York City FC a 4-4 draw on Sunday.

The match included a league-record four penalty kicks.

Mullins' tying goal came after Toronto FC cleared a free kick across its own net. Toronto had grabbed a 4-3 lead in the 82nd minute when Giovinco stole the ball, dribbled downfield and cut a pass back to Marky Delgado, who finished in front of the net.

Wondo fires San Jose past LA Galaxy, Whitecaps end Revolution's streak

The San Jose Earthquakes triumphed 3-1 over the LA Galaxy at Avaya Stadium courtesy of goals from Chris Wondolowski, Cordell Cato and Clarence Goodson.

Chris Wondolowski scored his ninth goal of the season as the San Jose Earthquakes beat the LA Galaxy 3-1 in the California Clasico.

Matias Perez Garcia added two assists for the Quakes, the first on a well-placed cross that Wondolowski smashed into the net in the 28th minute for a 1-all tie. Wondolowski moved alone into second place the MLS goal race, three behind Columbus' Kei Kamara.

Clarence Goodson gave San Jose the lead in the 53rd minute, heading home Perez Garcia's corner kick.

David Ousted saves two penalties to hand Vancouver victory over NYRB

The New York Red Bulls encountered a resilient Vancouver Whitecaps side, losing 2-1 to the Whitecaps, and it was NYRB's star Striker Bradley Wright-Phillips missed two crucial penalties.

David Ousted saved two penalty kicks, as the Vancouver Whitecaps held off the 10-man New York Red Bulls for a 2-1 victory on Saturday night.

Bradley Wright-Phillips took the penalty kicks for the Red Bulls in the fifth and the 65th minutes -- and both went waist high and to Ousted's right.
