Earthquakes stay hot to beat D.C. while Didier Drogba debuts in Impact's loss

DC United gives up three points at home after a pair of goals by the San Jose Earthquakes.

Chris Wondolowski scored his 12th goal of the season four minutes into the game and the San Jose Earthquakes beat Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United 2-0 on Saturday.

Coming off a 5-0 win at Sporting Kansas City, the Earthquakes grabbed the lead when Fatai Alashe punched a pass to the right side of the goal box and Wondolowski was able to turn on the ball and right-foot a shot into the bottom of the far corner.

Shea Salinas added his second goal of the year in the 52nd minute.

Pedro Morales signs contract extension with Vancouver Whitecaps

Pedro Morales will stay with Vancouver for the foreseeable future.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have re-signed captain Pedro Morales to a multi-year contract extension, the MLS club announced on Tuesday.

The team did not reveal terms or length of the new deal. 

"Since Pedro joined our team at the beginning of last season, he has been nothing short of a top player and professional," Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson said in a statement. "Pedro is instrumental to the success of this club and a true leader for our young group of players."

Honours even for Impact, Whitecaps in Canadian Championship final

Laurent Ciman and Anthony Jackson-Hamel scored late to help the Montreal Impact draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-2 on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Canadian Championship final.

Ciman scored for the defending champions in the 84th minute and Jackson-Hamel tied it in the 85th after Darren Mattocks and Pedro Morales had put the Whitecaps two goals up in the second half.

The second leg is Aug. 26 at B.C. Place in Vancouver.

Seattle Sounders and Vancouver share the spoils in CCL opener

Vancouver Whitecaps keeper Paolo Tornaghi blocks shot on goal by the Seattle Sounders during their CONCACAF Champions League clash.

Lamar Neagle scored for Seattle in the 72nd minute as the Sounders drew with the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 in their CONCACAF Champions League game on Wednesday night.

Tim Parker replied for the Whitecaps as both clubs opened Group F play.

Neagle scored off a free-kick that looped over the penalty area to Andy Rose on the right. He sent a ball back into the box to Neagle and he fired a shot high over Paolo Tornaghi.

DC United beat RSL on record day for goals; NYCFC lose in Lampard's debut

DC United became the first team in MLS history to come back from two goals down in back to back games as they outlasted RSL in a 10-goal thriller.

Perry Kitchen broke a 4-4 tie in the 79th minute and DC United beat Real Salt Lake 6-4.

The 10 goals fell one short of the MLS single-game record.

Kitchen's header, off of a long service from Taylor Kemp, beat Jeff Attinella for the difference-maker. Nick Deleon's left-footed blast from way outside provided insurance six minutes later.
