Valencia sign defender Aymen Abdennour from Monaco

Valencia have signed Aymen Abdennour from Monaco.

Valencia have announced the signing of Tunisia defender Aymen Abdennour, a player who had been linked with Chelsea as their pursuit of John Stones faltered.

Abdennour, 26, signed a five-year contract with Valencia, the club said, and joins from Monaco for an undisclosed fee.

"I chose Valencia CF out of all the offers I received, because it is a big club in Spain and Europe," Abdennour said on the club's website.

"I had no doubts. I am happy to be here and to be part of an ambitious and serious project,...

New Valencia defender Aderlan Santos vows to impress in La Liga

Valencia head coach Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his relief after the La Liga side scraped into the UEFA Champions League group stage with a 4-3 aggregate win against Monaco.

New Valencia centre-back Aderlan Santos says he is a "warrior" who will give everything for his new club.

Santos' arrival has not been met with approval from Valencia fans, who see the former Braga defender as an underwhelming replacement for Nicolas Otamendi.

This left Valencia short...

Last year's Ligue 1 runners-up received a favourable draw thanks to UEFA's new seeding policy that sees the champions from the top eight sides placed together in the top pot.

That moved perennial powers like Real Madrid and Manchester United into the second pot, and gave Lyon a legitimate chance to advance to the knockout stage.

"It's a pretty open group. That...

Man City get tricky Champions League group vs. Juventus; relief for United

Last year no Premier League side made it past the Champions League round of 16. How will they fare this year?
ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno and Alexis Nunes go group-by-group to break down the 2015 UEFA Champions League draw.

Manchester City have been handed a tough Champions League group stage draw against Juventus, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach.

City, who also dealt with tough draws in the past four seasons of the Champions League, were selected in Group D with last season's finalists and the Europa League champions.

Holders Barcelona, meanwhile, are in Group E alongside Roma, who finished second in Serie A last season, Bayer Leverkusen and BATE Borisov.

Barcelona lifted the trophy for the fifth time in their...
