Five games that shaped Club America and Tigres' paths to the Liga MX final

Oribe Peralta (24) celebrates after scoring the winning goal for Club America.
Club America defeated Chivas and Necaxa to book its ticket to the Liga MX final against Tigres.

Club America and Tigres have had their share of highs and lows on their respective paths to the Liga MX Apertura final. Keeping their recent runs in the regular season in mind, let's take a look at five matches that have helped shape their trips to the championship.

Club America

America 3-1 Toluca, July 23

Las Aguilas hit the ground running with five goals in two victories to start the Apertura. America had a difficult time gaining a 2-0 win against Chiapas in the season opener, but the squad followed...

Liga MX final needs no hype, but series is being overshadowed by long delay

Tigres will host Club America on Dec. 25, due to the latter's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup this month.

The momentum, buildup and excitement around what should be a showcase Liga MX final between Tigres and Club America have just ground to a halt.

After an intense start to the playoffs threw up arguably the perfect final to the 2016 Apertura, we are now faced with the reality of a 19-day delay, as Club America heads to Japan to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup. Las Aguilas' travels mean that the Liga MX final will take place on Dec. 22 at Estadio Azteca and Dec. 25 at Estadio Universitario,...

Andre-Pierre Gignac, Tigres edge past Leon into the Liga MX Apertura final

Andre-Pierre Gignac has been in fine form for Tigres during the liguilla, scoring five times in his past three starts.
Leon put up an impressive fight, but Tigres was still able to book its place in the Liga MX final with a 3-2 aggregate win.

Tigres were made to suffer but eventually came through to defeat Club Leon 2-1 on Saturday to advance to the Liga MX final 3-2 on aggregate.

Here are three thoughts from a tense night at Estadio Universitario:

1. Tigres hold on

The consistency and sheer depth of quality that Tigres possess have led the Northern Mexican team to a Liga MX final for the third consecutive December.

They were the heavy favorites to go through after the 1-0 victory away at Estadio Leon last Wednesday, but coach Ricardo...

France striker Andre-Pierre Gignac was once again on the scoresheet as Tigres defeated Leon 2-1 on Saturday to book their place in the Liga MX Apertura 2016 final.

Gignac made it five goals in three games to level the scores on the stroke of half-time, with Lucas Zelarayan scoring the winner for Tigres in the 78th minute. Luis Montes netted Leon's only goal just after the quarter hour to give the side hope after Tigres' 1-0 victory in the first leg last Wednesday.

The final will be played against...

Fearsome Andre-Pierre Gignac is back on the prowl and Tigres hopes are high

Andre-Pierre Gignac struck three times to down Pumas in the quarterfinals and followed up with the winner against Leon.

Hypnotized or not, Andre-Pierre Gignac is back and he's more awake than ever. Wednesday's 1-0 win over Leon in the first leg of the Liguilla semifinals must have been one of the France international's best games in a Tigres shirt.

The fact that Gignac scored the winner earns him all of the plaudits by default, but in truth his role was much more significant. As I've said in the past, TV only shows snippets of games. The broadcast, starting with the camera, follows the main protagonist: the...
