The DFB released a statement saying that Olic, 37, made online bets of three-figure amounts on a number of matches in August and September.

The former Croatia international placed bets on nine matches in his own division -- Germany's second tier -- though "he did not bet on games of 1860 Munich," the DFB said.

Liverpool's outgoing chief executive officer Ian Ayre has been offered the chance to become general manager of German side TSV 1860 Munich, an Anfield source has told ESPN FC.

Ayre announced in March that he was set to leave his role on Merseyside in May 2017 and would take up a position at the German second-division outfit upon the expiration of his Reds' contract.

A source has told ESPN FC that Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are aware of the opportunity and have worked with Ayre...

World Cup would cap meteoric rise for Milos Degenek under Postecoglou

Milos Degenek & Tomi Juric
Milos Degenek embraces Australia striker Tomi Juric after the Socceroos' 2-0 win against Iraq on Thursday.

Australia's Milos Degenek is targeting a World Cup "dream" just over a year after being left stranded without a club.

Bolting into the national team from the blue is becoming a popular route under coach Ange Postecoglou.

Apostolos Giannou, Chris Ikonomidis, Jackson Irvine, James Meredith and Bailey Wright all sat well outside the frame before being blooded.

But even by Postecoglou-era standards, Degenek's story takes some beating.

The 22-year-old had played three matches in three years with Stuttgart's...
