Strasbourg and Amiens promoted to Ligue 1 after wild finish in Ligue 2

Jeremy Grimm wrote out a marriage proposal on his shirt after Strasbourg were promoted.

Strasbourg and Amiens were promoted to Ligue 1 on Friday following an incredibly tight race in the French second division.

Six clubs entered the final day of the Ligue 2 season with a chance at winning the title, but Strasbourg came out on top with a 2-0 with over Bourg en Bresse Peronnas, edging Amiens and Troyes by a single point.

The promotion is Strasbourg's fourth in six years after they were sent to the fifth tier following bankruptcy issues in 2011. They last played in the top flight in 2008.

French league leaders Nice have only the title race to focus on for the rest of the season after going out of the Coupe de France on Sunday, losing 2-1 away to Lorient.

Lorient, in last place in Ligue 1, saw off Nice despite the visitors taking the lead through top scorer Alassane Plea near the end of the first half.

The hosts equalised with a fine individual goal from former Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere in the 71st minute, and Algerian midfielder Walid Mesloub's winner shortly after sent...

Troyes takeover by American investor 'not moving' - president Daniel Masoni

Troyes, relegated from Ligue 1 last season, hope a deal can still be done by September.

American investor Gary Allen has not completed his proposed takeover of Troyes, the president of the French second division club has said.

In June it was announced that Allen, who owns National Premier Soccer League club Spartans FC in Portland, would soon take control of Troyes, who were relegated from Ligue 1 last season.

But there has been little talk of the deal since, and Troyes president Daniel Masoni confirmed it had been held up.

"Nothing is moving," he told L'Equipe. "We're still waiting...
