Tijuana's Juan Arango gets 2-match ban for biting opponent

Juan Arango bit an opponent's shoulder in the dying seconds of his Tijuana's 4-3 Liga MX home defeat to Monterrey.

MEXICO CITY -- Former Venezuela international Juan Arango has been suspended for two matches for biting an opponent in the Mexican league last weekend.

A local disciplinary commission banned the veteran Tijuana playmaker after television images showed he bit Monterrey midfielder Jesus Zavala on the left shoulder during a game on Saturday.

Tijuana officials said on Tuesday that the club also punished Arango for his actions, but they did not say how.

Mix Diskerud coy on 2015 season plans

Mix Diskerud on Thursday refuted rumors that he will head to Club Tijuana, telling ESPN FC that if he plays in the Americas at all, it will be in an MLS club.

"A club somewhere in Estados Unidos - if - in the Americas," Diskerud wrote in an email when asked for clarification about his 2015 plans. "If I do sign with a new club - it will either be my new or old club that gets to inform you of it.

U.S. international Joe Corona breaks foot, out for rest of 2014

Joe Corona will miss the rest of 2014 with a broken bone in his foot.

U.S. international Joe Corona broke a bone in his right foot while playing for club side Tijuana on Friday night.

Tijuana sporting director Ignacio Palou confirmed that Corona broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a 2-1 win against Queretaro.

The injury will keep Corona out for the rest of the Apertura season, Palou said. He should be able to return for the start of the Clausura after the new year.

Matchups set for league playoffs

MEXICO CITY -- Chivas failed to qualify for the Mexican playoffs after losing 1-0 to Monterrey on Sunday in the final round of the Clausura regular season.

With Chivas eliminated, Cruz Azul will face eighth-placed Leon in the quarterfinals, while Toluca will play Tijuana, Pumas take on Pachuca and Santos Laguna meet America.

The first matches of the home-and-away series are scheduled to be played over Wednesday and Thursday, with the return legs on Saturday and Sunday.


Herculez Gomez roots for Mexico
