Expectations high for Liga MX clubs in CONCACAF Champions League

Henry Martin has been a revelation with his five goals and two assists for Club America.

Expectations are unsurprisingly high for the Liga MX teams involved in this year's CONCACAF Champions League tournament. Since 2006, no club outside of Mexico's first division has won top honors in the CONCACAF competition. Whether it be in the "Champions Cup" or "Champions League" era, a Liga MX team always seems to finish with the title in hand.

This year, the responsibility of maintaining that streak from 2006 lies in the hands (and feet) of four Liga MX squads: Club America, Chivas, Tijuana...

America stays top of Liga MX Power Rankings, Tigres drops to No. 4

Club America thrashed Lobos BUAP in Week 5 to stay ahead of the pack.

MEXICO CITY -- Monterrey and America got impressive 5-1 wins, which helped them consolidate their places at the top of the table. Frenchman Jeremy Menez scored his first Liga MX goal, while Erick Gutierrez and Keisuke Honda scored golazos but Pachuca still couldn't find the win. Pumas, led by an inspired Matias Alustiza, defeated Andre-Pierre Gignac's Tigres 2-0.

Here are the Power Rankings for Week 5:

America return to top of Liga MX Power Rankings, Tigres No. 2

Tigres' scintillating 3-2 win over Pachuca pushed them to No. 2 in the Power Rankings.

Tigres vs. Pachuca and Monterrey vs. Chivas were the best Week 4 games, both of which went down to the wire, but at the end both Nuevo Leon sides came out with important wins. Santos Laguna's Djaniny Tavares continues his impressive start to the Clausura; he already has six goals after four matches played.

Here are the Power Rankings for Week 4:

1. CLUB AMERICA (+1)
Miguel "Piojo" Herrera's America has yet to lose a game in the Clausura though its start to the new season hasn't been electrifying....

Andre-Pierre Gignac nets winner for Tigres to steal MX spotlight

Andre-Pierre Gignac reacts after scoring in the 84th minute to lead Tigres to an improbable win over Pachuca.

Five things we learned from round four of matches in Liga MX's 2018 Clausura:

1. Gignac provides magic to stun Honda's Pachuca

A lot of the build-up to the Liga MX weekend was centered around French forward Jeremy Menez making his debut for Club America in Estadio Azteca. As it turned out, Club America coasted to a 1-0 home win over Atlas, with Menez going 23 minutes in a lukewarm performance.

But it was another Frenchman who provided the moment of the weekend: Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Gignac netted...

Leon stays top of Liga MX Power Rankings, Pumas keep climbing

Leon kept their momentum going with a hard-fought draw against Cruz Azul.

It was an odd Week 3 in Liga MX as four games finished with scoreless draws and three games finished with 3-1 final scores. Clubs like Puebla, Pumas and Santos have had impressive starts to the Clausura, but will they able to build on them over the coming weeks?

Here are the Power Rankings for Week 3:

1. LEON (no change)
After the scoreless draw against Cruz Azul in Mexico City, manager Gustavo Diaz noted that his team created enough chances in the first half to take the lead but couldn't...
