Jonjo Shelvey best bargain of transfer window as China overpays

ESPN FC's Sid Lowe discusses Jackson Martinez's move to Guangzhou Evergrande and the sudden spending spree of Chinese clubs.

Jonjo Shelvey's move to Newcastle was the biggest bargain of the winter transfer window, while Guangzhou Evergrande easily overpaid the most in their €42 million acquisition of Jackson Martinez, according to a study by the CIES Football Observatory.

The study used an algorithm that correlated fees paid and prior results from more than 1,500 transfers since 2010.

Shelvey moved from Swansea to Newcastle in January for €16m (£12m), but the study reported the England international was...

Prem Forecaster: Leicester now title faves, Newcastle clear of drop zone

Former Arsenal player Sol Campbell believes that Leicester City can win the Premier League title if they keep their nerve.

On the 25th matchday of the 2014-15 Premier League season, Leicester City lost 2-1 at Arsenal, falling deeper into the Premier League basement with just 17 points.

One year later, Leicester City won its 25th game of the season, beating Manchester City 3-1 on Saturday and moving five points clear atop the league table (53 total points).

While the Foxes were already in first place entering the weekend, Saturday's win moved them atop the virtual standings for the first time this season. They are now the title favorite, according to both ESPN's Soccer Power Index (SPI) and the bookmakers.

Let's examine how this wild weekend affected the Premier League's three major races -- the title, top-four and relegation battles -- using SPI's projections (click here for more info on SPI). Plus, we preview two high-stakes matchups this weekend: Arsenal-Leicester City and Manchester City-Tottenham.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew pleased with point at Swansea

Scott Dann's second half finish saw Crystal Palace draw 1-1 with Swansea City.

Alan Pardew was relieved that his Crystal Palace side finally stopped the rot with a 1-1 draw at Swansea.

The Eagles avoided a sixth straight Premier League defeat when defender Scott Dann cancelled out Gylfi Sigurdsson's superb first-half free kick.

The game could have either way after Dann's 47th-minute leveller but Palace boss Pardew conceded the Eagles had been carrying some unwanted baggage in recent weeks.

Salomon Rondon's late goal masked West Brom's poor finishing - Kemp

West Brom drew with Swansea in the EPL as Salomon Rondon scored an equaliser in stoppage time to finish the game 1-1.
West Brom assistant manager David Kemp says they should've taken three points from West Brom as they had better chances.
Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin was disappointed with a draw against West Brom, but optimistic about how his side played.

Assistant manager David Kemp felt West Brom were fortunate not to be left counting the cost of some poor finishing before Salomon Rondon's late goal rescued a point against Swansea.

A combination of wayward attempts, with captain Darren Fletcher the main culprit, and some fine goalkeeping from Lukasz Fabianski looked like condemning Albion to a home defeat -- a loss that would have seen Swansea move above them in the Premier League table.

The Welsh side led through Gylfi Sigurdsson's 64th-minute...
