Dejan Damjanovic's double strike moved Suwon Bluewings to the verge of the Asian Champions League semifinals on Wednesday as they handed two-time champions Jeonbuk Motors a 3-0 defeat in the all-South Korean clash in the first leg of the quarterfinals.

Damjanovic, who joined Suwon at the start of the year from bitter rivals FC Seoul, was instrumental in securing a surprise win for his side a day after coach Seo Jung-Won announced he would be standing down from his role.

Al-Ittihad sign Matthew Jurman from Suwon Samsung Bluewings

Australian national team defender Matthew Jurman has a new home after signing with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

The 28-year-old was part of the Socceroos' World Cup squad but was one of eight players who didn't see a minute of action under Bert van Marwijk in Russia.

The pain of that snub will be soothed somewhat by his deal with the Jeddah-based club, which is reportedly worth $4 million over two years.

It was the wake-up call Graham Arnold said Sydney FC needed, with an opening AFC Champions League loss leaving the A-League champions everything to do in China next week.

The Sky Blues were outscored and ultimately outplayed in Wednesday night's opening 2-0 loss to Suwon Bluewings.

Last in Group H -- albeit with only one of six matches played -- they must re-group and aim for three points away to Shanghai Shenhua next week to stay on course for the round of 16.

With Suwon still in their K-League...

For all the talk of Sydney FC being a shot at lifting the Asian Champions League trophy, they will have to do better than their 2-0 humbling by Suwon Bluewings.

In the Sky Blues' first continental litmus test over their one-and-a-half seasons of A-League dominance, the reigning champions suffered a first home defeat in almost two years.

They were silenced by a South Korean team still in preseason, thanks to a wonder strike and penalty from former Montenegro international Dejan Damjanovic.
