Guangzhou Evergrande thrash Eastern, go top of ACL group

Adelaide United find a late equaliser in an epic battle with Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League.
Jordan O'Doherty's high-powered shot propelled Adelaide United back into their ACL match versus Gamba Osaka.
Adelaide's Ben Garuccio gave away a reckless penalty, but it was Yasuhito Endo who's missed penalty stole the show.
Gamba Osaka's Ritsu Doan caught Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic off his line and finished calmly.
Ramires' inch-perfect effort would be the winner for Jiangsu Suning in a 1-0 win over Gamba Osaka.

A Brazilian-inspired Guangzhou Evergrande went to the top of Group G of the 2017 AFC Champions League (ACL) on Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Eastern SC of Hong Kong that saw Samba imports Paulinho, Alan and Ricardo Goulart netting all but one of the goals.

With a single game of the group stage remaining, the two-time continental winners will be certain of a place in the last 16 if they avoid defeat at home to Suwon Samsung Bluewings of South Korea on May 9.

Guangzhou Evergrande held to third ACL stalemate to frustrate Scolari

FC's Jason Dasey and Dez Corkhill recap some of the biggest results from the current round of AFC CL matches.

It was the third successive stalemate for Luiz Felipe Scolari's men in the continental competition. It leaves the 2013 and 2015 winners on six points from four games, two behind new group leaders Suwon Samsung Bluewings, of South Korea.

Luiz Felipe Scolari (left) said 'there will be mistakes even in the strongest defence.'

Guangzhou Evergrande coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has said he will not make wholesale changes to his side's defence against Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in the Asian Champions League.

Evergrande were held to a 2-2 draw by Suwon Bluewings in their last game in the competition, with both the South Korean side's goals the result of poor defending at corners.

But as they reach the halfway mark in the group stage of the continental club championship, Scolari told reporters: "It is not realistic for me to completely...
