SuperSport United salvage point vs. Horoya in Confederation Cup opener

The expanded group phase of the African Confederation Cup got off to an inauspicious start in Pretoria on Friday when the game between SuperSport United of South Africa and Guinea's Horoya AC kicked off 30 minutes late because of an errant bus driver and ended in a surprise 2-2 draw for the hosts.

The start of the match was delayed because the bus supposed to pick the visiting team at their plush city hotel failed to arrive at the appointed time and finally only delivered them at the Lucas Moripe...

SuperSport end Cape Town City's PSL title hopes

SuperSport United ran out 4-2 winners over Cape Town City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday to all but end the Cape side's Absa Premiership title challenge.

Goals from Thabo Mnyamane, Clayton Daniels, Jeremy Brockie and Thuso Phala secured the result for Matsatsantsa, who move up to fourth place, four points behind City.

Lehlohonolo Majoro and Lebogang Manyama netted for the visitors, who remain five points behind leaders Bidvest Wits with two matches remaining.

City took the lead in the...

Stuart Baxter returns as South Africa coach

South Africa have appointed Stuart Baxter as Shakes Mashaba's successor, the nation's football association (Safa) confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

Mashaba was sacked in December for 'gross misconduct', and despite several high-profile coaches being linked to the post, Safa have opted to bring Baxter back for a second stint as Bafana Bafana boss.

The Scot, who is currently head coach at PSL side SuperSport United, previously held the reins between 2004 and 2005, but quit after South Africa failed...

SuperSport United's Stuart Baxter hospitalised, misses next two games

SuperSport United will be without head coach Stuart Baxter for the next two matches after he was hospitalised to undergo emergency treatment.

The 63-year-old Englishman experienced 'discomfort' during the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal victory against Kaizer Chiefs, and will now miss the Premiership games against Chiefs and Bidvest Wits.

"SuperSport United head coach Stuart Baxter will miss his team's fixtures this week after being admitted for emergency medical treatment on Monday," the club announced...

SuperSport knock Chiefs out of Nedbank Cup via shootout

The SuperSport United-Kaizer Chiefs Nedbank quarterfinal lived up to expectation on Saturday night when extra-time and penalties were needed to separate the two PSL teams following a tight affair.

The first half lacked quality as SuperSport, coached by Chiefs' former coach Stuart Baxter, held shape and waited for Chiefs to make mistakes before hitting them on the break. As it happened, neither the visitors nor Steve Komphela's side were able to conjure up clear-cut chances and they went into half-time...
