Chris Whelpdale scored twice as Stevenage recorded a comfortable 3-0 win against Mansfield.

The 27-year-old scored twice with Charlie Lee also netting in-between on a good afternoon for Graham Westley's side.

Whelpdale opened the scoring in the third minute after a pinpoint pass from Tom Pett left him one-on-one with goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov.

The Bulgarian blocked the first effort with his legs but the Stevenage midfielder passed the rebound into the middle of an open goal from eight yards.

Oxford, who were bottom of the table a fortnight ago, made it five league games without defeat but were left frustrated by a 0-0 draw against Stevenage at the Kassam Stadium.

Michael Appleton's team dominated possession but could not find a way through a stubborn Boro defence.

Top scorer Danny Hylton spurned three great opportunities to find the net.

Buoyed by their first league win of the season against Accrington in midweek, Oxford took the game to Stevenage from the off.

Hylton had a close-range shot...

Craig Jones scored his second goal in two games as Bury came from behind to claim a 2-1 home win against Stevenage.

Adam Marriott gave the visitors a 10th-minute lead but Ryan Lowe swiftly equalised before Jones' 47th-minute winner sent the Shakers second in League Two.

Stevenage had caught Bury cold as Marriott beat Pablo Mills down the right before firing past Rob Lainton at his near post.

The Shakers hit back within three minutes as Ryan Lowe curled in a 25-yard free-kick.

Tom Soares was then denied...

Stevenage ended a run of back-to-back defeats after Darius Charles' fortuitous first-half goal was enough to give them a 1-0 victory at home to Shrewsbury.

Charles netted the only goal of the game less than ten minutes before the break when his left-footed volley took a massive deflection and wrong-footed Shrews goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.

Shrewsbury thought they had stolen a point at the death but Jermaine Grandison saw a header rebound off the bar as they searched for an equaliser.

Wes Fletcher scored twice as York claimed their first win of the season as they withstood a strong fightback by 10-man Stevenage before eventually prevailing 3-2.

Boro spent more than an hour with 10 men but fought back from two goals down before Fletcher's penalty ended a run of five consecutive draws for the Minstermen.

York raced into a two-goal lead inside 15 minutes as Sam Beasant failed to keep out a Michael Coulson free-kick before Fletcher finished into the bottom corner to round off a swift...
