Mexico's Guillermo Ochoa has stood out in Europe and with El Tri

Progressing from the last six World Cup group stages, Mexico have no issues starting the tournament well, but can they progress in the knockout stages in Russia?

This is a profile of Guillermo Ochoa, who is part of ESPN's World Fame 100.

One of Mexico's storied goalkeepers, Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa has excelled under intense pressure on the World Cup stage with El Tri.

As the starting goalkeeper for Club America at 18, Ochoa showcased cat-like reflexes in stopping shots that seemed impossible. In time, a number of prominent goalies lost their starting position to Ochoa, like Adolfo Ríos and then Argentine goalie Sebastian Saja. The young man with the...

Club Brugge hold Standard Liege to win second Belgian title in three years

Club Brugge won the Belgian league.

Club Brugge won their second Belgian title in three years with a 1-1 draw at their closest challengers Standard Liege on Sunday.

Brugge were the runaway leaders at the end of the regular season, before all points were halved at the start of the playoffs between the top six teams.

With their 15th domestic title, Brugge automatically...

Belgian FA proposes €1k fine over racist abuse during league game

Uche Agbo was subjected to monkey chants and pelted with beer after being sent off against Kortrijk.

The Belgian FA (KBVB) has proposed that Kortrijk be fined €1,000 for their fans' racial abuse of Standard Liege's Uche Agbo in last week's league game.

The football authorities were urged to take firm action after Agbo was subjected to monkey chants and pelted with beer as he made his way back to the dressing room after being sent off in the first half of the match on Dec. 27.

However, Kortrijk, who won the game 2-1, are likely to face a fine of just €1,000 after the FA's disciplinary...

Belgian FA urged to act over racism after Uche Agbo suffers abuse

Uche Agbo was racially abused at Courtrai.

The Belgian Football Association has been urged to take swift action after Standard Liege player Uche Agbo was racially abused at a game.

Agbo, at Standard on loan from Watford, was sent off for a second booking in a defeat at Courtrai on Wednesday, contesting the decision and taking more than three minutes to leave the pitch.

As he walked back to the dressing room, he was subjected to monkey chants and pelted with plastic cups and responded with an obscene gesture.

The authorities have now been...

Guillermo 'Memo' Ochoa takes No. 8 jersey at Standard Liege

After enduring relegation to the Spanish second tier with Granada last season, Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa has upped sticks and moved on once again.

Indeed, with one eye on making Mexico's 2018 World Cup squad, the ever-popular keeper has sought to keep his European dream alive by signing for Belgian side Standard Liege.

In a slightly unorthodox move, the veteran keeper has taken the No.8 jersey at his new club.

That photo must be tough viewing for fans who regard goalkeepers wearing anything other than...
