St Johnstone and Kilmarnock played out a disappointing 0-0 Scottish Premiership draw at McDiarmid Park on Saturday afternoon.

The home side came closest to scoring in the first half when Michael O'Halloran and Steven MacLean were both denied in quick succession.

Kilmarnock thought they had won it 10 minutes from time but Nathan Eccleston saw his shot heroically blocked by Tam Scobbie in the midst of a dramatic goalmouth scramble.

Clear opportunities were few and far between for much of the match, and...

St Johnstone comfortably won this Tayside derby 2-0 thanks to Michael O'Halloran's first-half double which made for only Dundee United's second home defeat of the season at Tannadice.

Tommy Wright's side were put on their way to victory after forward O'Halloran opened the scoring on 10 minutes when his shot squirmed past United debutant keeper Michal Szromnik, before the 24-year-old notched his second on 44 minutes.

It meant a second consecutive Scottish Premiership league defeat for Jackie McNamara's...

Quick-fire Celtic extended their winning run to eight games at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 2-1 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, but not without a nervy ending.

Returning Hoops' striker Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring from a Nir Bitton pass after 35 seconds, beating the debut goal from Gary Mackay-Steven against Partick Thistle on Wednesday night by three seconds.

When midfielder Stefan Johansen doubled the visitors' lead seven minutes after the break it looked like Ronny...

Goals at both ends of the second half from Derek Lyle and Gavin Reilly ended St Johnstone's William Hill Scottish Cup defence and sent Queen of the South into the quarter-finals as 2-0 winners.

Lyle scored from close range three minutes after the interval to reward the Scottish Championship play-off hopefuls for taking the game to the holders.

Queens had the better of a tight first half and came close to stretching their lead before St Johnstone got going as an attacking force in the final quarter.

But...

John Sutton prevented Motherwell suffering a sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership defeat as they bounced back from debutant Louis Laing's red card to draw 1-1 with St Johnstone.

A new era at Fir Park looked almost certain to get off to a losing start as Motherwell trailed to Murray Davidson's early goal.

With new owner Les Hutchison watching from the directors' box 24 hours after assuming control, another Motherwell newcomer got his Fir Park career off to the worst of starts.

Centre-back Laing, who...
