Celtic warmed up for their crucial Champions League play-off in midweek with a 4-2 win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park after surviving a late lapse.

Striker Leigh Griffiths, celebrating his 26th birthday, opened the scoring in the 28th minute with his sixth of the season before forward Scott Sinclair and James Forrest looked to have three Ladbrokes Premiership points secured by the interval.

The Scottish champions cruised the second half although in the 82nd-minute Hoops substitute Liam Henderson...

Steven MacLean capitalised on some poor goalkeeping from Craig Samson to earn St Johnstone a 2-1 Ladbrokes Premiership victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.

Motherwell midfielder Chris Cadden netted the opener from close range two minutes after the interval but Danny Swanson hit a solo equaliser within nine minutes.

And St Johnstone sealed their second comeback victory in four days when MacLean nodded home after Samson had palmed out Chris Kane's strike from almost 25 yards.

Substitute David Wotherspoon then added a late fourth to complete the victory.

While it was a comfortable win for Saints, there were concerns for a late injury sustained by Albion keeper Chris Smith, who landed awkwardly...

St Johnstone maintained pole position in their Betfred Cup group by seeing off the challenge of Championship side Falkirk.

Referee Bobby Madden awarded the Perth side three first-half penalties, with Liam Craig missing the first but Danny Swanson twice converting when he assumed responsibility from the spot.

A scrappy third goal after the interval rounded off a comfortable win, Steven MacLean initially credited but Joe Shaughnessy possibly getting the final touch.
