Fabian Lemoine fired a late winner to hand St Etienne all three points away at Lorient in Saturday's Ligue 1 action at the Stade du Moustoir.

Lemoine scored from 25 yards with just three minutes on the clock to snatch a late win 1-0 for the visitors to give them their fifth league win of the season.

ASSE wasted several chances to score during the game but the late win boosted them to fourth place ahead of the evening kick-offs.

St Etienne went close early on and could have opened the scoring with less...

Wissam Ben Yedder scored the only goal of the game as Toulouse moved above St Etienne in the Ligue 1 standings after a 1-0 win at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Ben Yedder tucked home in the 21st minute and although the home side had chances to level, most notably when Benjamin Corgnet struck the crossbar just after the half hour, Toulouse held on and are now unbeaten in four games.

It is a different story for Les Verts, who were third in the table after beating Lens a couple of weeks ago but are now winless...

St Etienne and Dnipro played out a goalless draw in Europa League Group F, with the hosts on top but their Ukrainian opponents missing a first-half penalty.

Stephane Ruffier foiled Nikola Kalinic from 12 yards, but a masterclass from rival goalkeeper Denys Boyko ensured a share of the spoils and Dnipro's first point in the competition, having lost to Inter Milan two weeks ago.

The Italians top the group on six points, with ASSE second after back-to-back stalemates.

Boyko saved Ricky van Wolfswinkel's...

Marseille celebrate Dimitri Payet's winning goal.

Marseille returned to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday evening with a 2-1 win at home to St Etienne.

The hosts got off to an impressive start and goals from Gilbert Imbula and Dimitri Payet had them two ahead before the half-hour.

Jonathan Brison pulled one back early in the second half, but OM finished the stronger to go two points clear of Bordeaux, who had won by the same score earlier in the day, at the top of the table.

Marseille started well and Imbula fired them in front with a fierce right-footed...

Ligue 1 to tighten sanctions against hooligans

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti discusses Marcelo Bielsa and his squad's impressive start to the Ligue 1 season.

PARIS -- French authorities are strengthening their arsenal in the fight against hooliganism following serious incidents that marred the start of the season.

Clashes before and after a weekend match in Corsica between Bastia and Marseille in August left 44 police officers injured, prompting the French government to ask football authorities to stop "inadmissible violence" near and inside stadiums.

Following a meeting between Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, Minister of Youth and Sports Patrick...
